Hi guys as I am moving away from home in a few months and taking my defender with me my father now needs another car to tow the horse box with. He very much wants a disco 2 as he has owed a disco 1 in the past and can’t stand the rattling ride of another defender. He is unsure how an auto would cope with towing or weather he should stick with a manual (all of the above is for a td5)
Thanks a lot for any advice

Autos tow perfectly well. The only slight issue is that on long uphill motorway sections etc at 50-ish mph it can "hunt" between 3rd and 4th. You can get round this by either selecting 3rd or (sometimes) going into Sport mode.

I have been using my auto for 10 years and wouldn't go back to manual if you paid me (well unless you paid me an awful lot).

Tow a v big box trailer with ours long distances, not a problem, just give the box a chance when going uphill and take it out of cruise control.

Auto is better than manual in the d2's case IMO.

Just knock it down to 3rd on long climbs, as said above..

As above, we've used our D2 auto for towing a horse trailer for the past few years, often with two horses onboard with no problems. Actually, there is a problem - it copes so well, it's easy to forget the trailer is there!
