machining a fake K series crankshaft

Fitted to the block. The idea is that the disc on the end of the fake crank is a near interference fit in the bell housing. I can now make an adapter plate from 6mm steel plate and the fake crank forces the centre line of the gearbox to line up with the centre line of the engine:-

All very clever and impressive.

I'd be happy just to have the bits on me workbench and know the engineering that went in to them. Wouldn't matter if it worked or not :D

Ron is a top bloke. Read his story here
Edit. I can't link to him because this forum won't allow me to link to autosxxxxe
You have to google for this phrase "Tales of a new business, trials and endless uphill battles by Jikovron"

Edit2: He has a website of his own https://www.rrmotorworks.co.uk/ I'm very happy to recommend him.

Looks a very clever bloke.

Long way to take your parts to be machined.

Beautiful part of the country though. I used to love my trips up to the Thorntons chocolate factory in Belper. Always got a good stock of treats from the staff shop... and felt sick as a dog by the time I got back home to South London :D

This is all very impressive stuff. Nice to see a bit more proper engineering, knowledge and ingenuity. As interesting as Ali's build!

I know - I get all happy with myself if I manage to replace a set of rear brake shoes
(Bloody tricky them things, nuts and springs and all sorts, let me tell you)

Well done chaps

I spent last saturday under the car and removed the subframe and IRD. I might get the PG1 out today or tomorrow.

I need to order a heavy duty reverse band, and a torque converter oil seal for the Jatco, as they might be going in quite soon.

Can anyone tell me where I can get them from? One Stop Gearbox Shop couldn't get either for me.

does anyone know of a full parts database for the Freelander 1 so that I can search for genuine part numbers myself?

I use this

Your other question is more tricky. The V6 and TD4 auto boxes are different cases and ratios. I have only ever used the diagram you show for non gear related parts, clutches, drums, pistons etc and they have always been correct for a TD4.

It is probably reasonable to assume that the V6 has the same internals unless you are looking at gear ratios. JP are very helpful. Give them a ring?

I dropped them an email just now with the VIN number of the car that my gearbox came from. Hopefully they can help.

What do you need or is it just for data reasons??
The reverse band is known weak point on these transmissions, and, as there is a "heavy duty" replacement available, and, as it is so much work to get these gearboxes in and out I am thinking that I should get an fit the heavy duty one now, whilst the gearbox is in pieces already.

I just spoke to JP and they say that they only have one part, it's the OEM one, and they aren't aware of any alternatives. So I don't know whether it's any upgrade on the one that's already fitted.

OK. Yes mine broke at 100k miles on TD4.

Can't help on upgrade details, sorry. There is a thread about it somewhere might help.
