At ten to one this morning, my alarm went off - siren and continuous horn!

When I investigated, my 300tdi Defender was 15 feet further down the road from where I parked it, with the front number plate on the floor, having been unscrewed.

It looks like it was towed backwards away from the house, but the alarm must have scared them away.

This was near reigate / redhill in Surrey, so keep yours locked up and safe!

Mine was promptly moved onto the drive and blocked in for the night......

Thanks for the warning, irrespective of where you live, look after your Landy as it seems like the nicking season is upon us ... again!!!

Thanks for the heads up....my neck of the woods that so will be extra vigilant.

Cheers ;)

Was it towed/dragged whilst on all 4 wheels or is there sign they lifted one end?
I can't tell - it was half on the path and half on the road. the marks on the road were from where the wheels caught stones.

There are fresh scratches and gouges on the front bumper, which makes me think they pushed it - that can only have been with another defender or something else the exact same height as my bumper.....

Good to hear you have still got it.

Did it have extra security on it? Disclok etc?

Cheers

yes - pedal lock, so i suspect some kind of trailer was to be involved.

Or get it somewhere quiet and start cutting, is why I also have the Disclok and engage the steering lock. Make life a bit more difficult if they want to push it down the road.

Still good your alarm worked .

Cheers

The reason I ask is because I was wondering how they nick them. We know about them undoing the nut controlling the steering. If they didn't break into yours then one would assume they were going to tow it or lift it. If they had a way of lifting the front then they don't need to steer it. If towing on all 4 wheels then someone has to get in and steer it. Most are taken without peeps knowing which makes me wonder if they lift the front end quickly and tow.

I'm putting cctv in, so if they come back, I'll let you know :)

Very glad they didn't get it and I hope you can keep it safe.
I was reading a news piece a couple of days ago where police admitted they almost never stop recovery trucks as they assume they are going about business legitimately. Using recovery trucks seems to be the way high end vehicles are being taken, firstly to a place where they are left for a week to see if anyone finds them and secondly to the chop shop or freight port, as we know.

That was my thinking - doesn't look suspicious....
