This is a total lie. A Freelander with the props removed won't fail the Mot!! If it's fitted it must be servicible but it doesn't need to be there. I always take the front prop off mine so I can put it on the rollers to test the brakes properly.
These crooks are simply praying on Freelander owners who don't know any different :(

Read that this is not the case in Norther Ireland, no prop and you get failed. Just thought I should add this before our friends over the water notice.

I think someone posted they tried to tell peeps they'd had problems, and took some crap vcu's back from peeps complaining for eggschange. Give them a call to see about changing it. And tell em I'm not happy about hearing this.

Good morning all.
The Land over guy I have spoken to mentioned something about 'recalls', I will give the supplier a call. At least this will give them a chance to put things right. Fact is some, or most, of the VCU's they sell must be OK or surely they would not still be in business.
Will post back with any news.
Regards
Dave.

I think most peeps wouldn't notice if the vcu was open circuit. Some peeps only fit an open circuit one so they can sell their Freelander.

Sell my Freelander, never. Will need a big hole in the ground when I go as freelander will come with me :)

I plan to use mine as a coffin when I go. Sadly there are some Freelander owners who sell their Freelanders. It’s hard to believe but some just int suited to Freelanders. Running costs and occasional repairs can turn even the hardest of Freelander owners into a jabbering wreck. Hence why the sell them.

Just been looking at LR's site. They have a FL2 SD4 GS on 4k miles. £24k. And it's blue. :)

Hi all.
I hope you all had a good Christmas and that the new year smiles on one and all.
Just to update this thread my Freelander now has a fully working VCU courtesy of Bell Engineering. Thanks to them for their good service and functioning part.
Because the VCU I returned came from where it did, Freelander Spares UK, Bell Engineering would not allow me the full £75.00 surcharge although they did allow £25.00 for the damper. The reason for this being that these VCU units, from Freelander Spares UK, are doctored in such a way that they cannot be used again.
Ken, at Bell Engineering, offered to write me a report as to the condition of and what he thought had been done to the returned unit. I have now received that report which basically says that the unit has been drilled, a 6mm threaded hole, and that substance has been introduced through the hole which, in effect, dilutes the original silicon fluid. The effect of this is that all the symptons of a 'seized' VCU disappear but there is no, or very little drive to the rear wheels. In my case no drive at all.
I will be contacting Freelander Spares UK to give them the opportunity to comment and or, don't hold your breath, offer a refund. The next step will be contacting the Trading Standards Office.
I would be interested to know how many people out there have dealt with Freelander Spares UK and whether you were,
A. Satisfied.
B. Not satisfied.
C. Never tested the the part off road.

Regards

Dave.

have you carried out a :search:

tiz well documented. they have changed names a couple of times as well. i believe.

I had a VW synchro many years ago which also used a VCU. In those when the fluid failed to do it's job you could drain the old fluid out and refill with fresh. I believe the fluid is still available too.

Hippo, would you buy another FL1, seriously??:) Proper question, any idea what approx temp the wax stat should open as starting to wonder if mine is fooked? Terrible thread etique, I know!

They're also on ebay as 4x4north-east, same address and phone number,
LAND ROVER FREELANDER VISCOUS COUPLING VCU 2WD 1.8 /2.0TD TD4 | eBay

Thats interesting. Did not know they were 4x4North-east.

I ordered an L series OS top engine mount from them, one of two appearing on eBay for 23 quid. A day later I got an email saying they had refunded because all the stud threads on their stock were wrong and they had to send them all back so no stock.

Took a look at the order and original listing, and on the original ebay item number, they had made one change - up-ed the price from 23 quid to 108 quid.

Now, the above might not be anything unreasonable, but there are two ways to do this kind of thing with a customer, keep them in the dark, and give them a story that kind of might be plausible, and then go with an inexplicable change in price, or, follow up with the customer, use a new listing, and explain the major price hike. The story I got sounded like they were taking the ****, especially since other suppliers away from eBay could supply an OE quality item for close to the 20 quid price.

If they are one and the same, from my experience, would not touch them with a 10 foot greasy barge pole!! Customer choice and a lot more honest suppliers out there with competitive prices.
