if you do a search using veg oil or bio fuel you should get loads of results. I run 1/4 veg oil mix no real prob in fact runs better, just turns over couple more times to start from cold. thought about bio but kits etc seem expensive ?

Is that new oil you are using or waste-if waste are you filtering and de-watering first.If you want to go the bio route to be honest most kits are expensive and some are dangerous.You are better off making your own-far cheaper and far safer.The biggest problem i have is getting enough waste oil in the first place.

Hi some wast and some new 80p litre, yes well filtered but not de watered . just let it stand couple of days and pour off ant crud. and yes hoping when I move will get shed with power so I can set somthing up for bio

'Ruby' runs fine on home made biodiesel... has done for 24k over the last 2 years.
Mine has only been running bio for 6 months,(since i bought it)but I have been making bio for 2yrs.Either my fuel is getting better or the landy is liking it,she is getting more powerful all the time-even beat a car away from the lights the other day,must be cleaning up the injectors etc(prolly a sign something is going horribly wrong soon!!)

we run biodiesel at work on the wagons, been using it for 18 months and now we are starting to get problems, water and this other stuff that looks like a slug blocking the crossover pipes between tanks, millers keep taking samples for us, to clarify "millers dont supply bio, they do our samples" its a good job we are on a 5 week service cycle or things could be much worse, tried a couple of gallon from work and now the sedimenter light is on and i've just drained it, trouble is its still on.
Is this commercial bio you are using?I have run some commercial stuff thru my home tests and it was inferior quality to my own.One important test is dissolving 3ml of bio in 27mls of methanol at 20c-the result should be a clear phase with no drop out of oil visible-If there is dropout it means an incomplete reaction,I have known commercial bio fail this test.

Thats the problem I found, where to get the used oil. Most of the chippy's etc round here have a deal with their suppliers to buy back the waste.

I don't use old oil for the simple reason that you haven't got a clue what's in it. Some oils that chipshops etc use have an anti foaming agent in them which is a type of silicon. This doesn't burn properly and can leave very abrasive deposits just where you don't want them, ie inside your engine. It's also too much hassle for me to mess about with all the filtering etc. So I just use the new stuff, knowing exactly what's in it, and saving about 30ppl over the price of pump diesel.
Have a look at the :journey to forever website-here you will find an idea of whats involved in processing bio diesel,including doing trial batches in 2lt lemonade bottles-if you do a trial batch,up the caustic soda to 5grams(their 3.5 g is a bit outdated).and try new supermarket oil first before you have a go at the waste oil.Oil that is liquid at room temp is more successful for bio-particularly winter-a lot of chip shops use vegetable lard that is solid at room temp-great for summer bio though.Cost savings are significant,costs me ~16p/Lt including electricity-But does take time,but I like my independance from big oil and MOT time is no problem as your emissions are so low
just shove it in - add some petrol if you want to run high ratios this weather - the 200 in my 110 ran all summer on 100% SVO with no problems what so ever, filtering used oil seems like a lot of trouble for little gain to me, unless your doing high miles and are getting it for peanuts
and it's tax paid, if you start using heating oils as a thinners you'll be forever hoping Mr Dipper isn't around the next corner
Good point,as far as I know,the only legal fuels on the road are duty paid petrol or derv or biodiesel (i run mine under the allowance from HMRC of 2500 lts per year per individual for personal use)Not sure what the situation is with veg oil usage,perhaps it still counts as a biofuel and comes under the allowance
