Eating or drinking while driving, applying make up, excessively loud music, reading a map or wearing any type of headphone or ear piece are now illegal with an on the spot fine of about €90 if you are caught.
Under existing rules;
SatNavs with speed camera locations are also illegal.
You must also carry a minimum of 2 alco test kits, a warning triangle, two if towing, a set of spare bulbs and spare glasses if you need them for driving plus reflective jackets for all occupants.
Smoking is now banned in cars with kids under 12.
Drive safe:D

Thanks for that. I've no plans to do it soon but I will be getting back over there eventually. I like a couple of the new rules, some good common sense ones in there for once :)

Isn't there something about reflective jackets for all occupants?

Even more reasons to avoid France! I've always done Dover - Dunkirk, keeps the time in the 3rd world to a minimum.

Eating or drinking while driving. I Like a gulp of water to hydrate or redbull and some sweets for energy ??

It is already illegal to do it here. Just very few cops will pull you for it. I can see the French using it as a way to make €90 from the Brits.

Sucking a sweet should be OK, if you take a drink while driving, don't get caught, there is a big purge going on this year. 50km over the limit and you may well lose your car or motorbike.

They are hammering the French, Dutch and Germans etc as well:)

Shame they never asked for all that lot 70 years ago when we went over and saved there arses

I don't get it tbh, nobody likes getting had for traffic offences but none of the rules are difficult to follow.

It's good to know what they are but we expect visitors here to follow our rules, only difference is that we don't take money on the spot.

Perhaps we should, it would reduce the hassle of chasing fines all over the world.
