My mate had this problem at a bp last night
Phoned me out, i remembered this thread so we towed it out of the forcourt .plulled over about 200 yards down the road and tryed it again
Doors unlocked with remote now! stuck key in, battery was too flat to start??? Put jump leads on fired up straight away
Now not sure if this was a battery problem or somthing at the garage but it woludnt even try to turn over before we moved and the remote wasent working before eather

It is strange why we have to put up with this. RFI is a pain.

I am glad I posted this thread if it helped you, fingers crossed it can help others too. :)

hi had something like this once, think it was fallty button on key fob .Started using second key remote never happened again.

Happened again, this time at the re-cycling centre. All was ok until the guy operated the remote control smasher/compactor to get some space in the wood and cardboard containers.

Freaking nightmare. Tried the usual, no luck. Lucky I keep the emergency key in the car as the keyfob one was having issues, not to mention the bending of the plastic as I hurriedly tried to enable the disable.......... Lucky I keep the code in my wallet.

hi to you all on this thread , this is a regular event especially at tescos hypermarkets or a lot of other well known outlets that have mobile phone masts and high output computer trafficc , the best way to eliminate this is by changing your RF RECIEVER BOX in the rear of your boot its under the right hand side of the plastic top parcel shelf very easy to access and when you check it it will have a blue circle sticker on it this is the series 2 unit installed in r/r from 1966--- 2001/2002 ,, you need to swap it for a series 3 which has the green circle sticker on it ,, the new unit eliminates this problem as landrover superseeded the blue ones cos of the printed circiut design to the new one chip design,, if you are getting total lockout or engine disabled then p.m. me and will e-mail you the re-sync info i have personally re-synced approx 47 vechicles up to date ,, but as i advise buy yourself the new green series three one and you will NOT have any more problems ,,,,hope this clears it up for you all kind regards mozz

Sorry for huuuuuuge delay to update this. I posted another thread about the "wet patch" which led me to strip the back out and ah ha, I found my RF receiver does have a blue sticker.
Better replace it at some point then :)

Cheers

Whilst you are there, in the meantime, wrap it in tin foil to shield it and if you can, get a snap-on ferrite clamp from Maplin to put over its leads. It should make it better and more RFI-proof until you replace it. It'll only cost £2.50 if you don't already have the parts...

i had engine disable first day i had my RR, found out it was caused by the ign barrel sticking in, not popping out when removing the key. strange but true.

also, stay away from virgin media boxes and the green GPO boxes, have had reports of same thing happening.

wow ! the list of places to avoid is getting longer and longer.... can i add my local - my remote wont lock car when i go in for a tipple .... damned if im walking though !

Over 200 Shell stations have mobile phone masts 'hidden' in the top of their signs.
Unfortunately over 120 McDonalds also have them
and over 20 Texaco stations
Sainsbury's have got some and Tesco and, and, and
then factor in that some of them are still using up-and-down satellite links for their data
and have you seen the roof of a bookies recently?

Yup, the sooner you change those RF units the better.

Will do when one comes up at the right price. There are loads of the type I have on ebay, and DLS have the new one for £215!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any difference between GEMS and THOR? The ones available would suggest so...

Don't buy off Ebay, you are likely to get an old type in a new box. Look at Island 4 x 4, they were sub £200.
If you do a site search you will find all the info and prices along with the new part number and photo's of the internals:) All models use the same receiver except for the US market and it's plug and play.:)

We get it in our 2000 4.6 at our local shell, only on certain pumps though- stick it in neutral, push 2 yards hey presto it starts!
