hello everyone, i am a disco owner (3 days), maybe i should have asked these questions before i actually bought the car, but i fell in love with it as soon as a drove it so i had to get it! anyway i'll cut to the chase............

i have a DISCOVERY V8I S AUTOMATIC 1993 L reg

1. Is my discovery permanet 4 wheel drive?
2. does anyone else with a similar model cost £80 to fill it up and then only do about 200 miles?
3. if mine is not permanet 4 wheel drive, how the f**k do i make it 2 wheel drive and save petrol?

thank you all for reading what must seem a childs comments, but any response you make i will be grateful

cheers!

trade it in for a moped, i hear they do about 5brazillon miles to a galleon and , and only cost about a fiver to fill up

yeh i know, but the diesel only does an extra 20%

20% extra? 240miles to a tank? Don't kid yourself, £80 of diesel in the tank will take me about 460miles, even my 90 diesel will do about 375miles to a tank.

Yup same here, fill up with around £70-75 and comfortably get 430+ out of it without having to drive like a Granny (Diesel 300TDI 'N Plate)

I can get 500 miles out of my TD5 but that is pushing it and i am then running on fumes.

Patvin - would did you expect out of a big V8?

ok BEST YET WAS 438 MILES TO A TANK OF DIESEL BUT AT £0.96 AND 90 LITRES IN THE TANK ITS WAY OVER £80 TO FILL IT. Plus the way the thing drops bits off rattles clunks and grinds, I think I'll treat mine to a trip to the scrap yard and write off the 3 grand it cost me and never go near landrovers again .....

you don't think maybe you just bought a pile of crap that hadn't been well looked after?

I have a V8i, average 250 miles per tank, +/- £70 to fill up, dont worry about the cost, it is a true landy!

My V8 is on LPG. £24 to fill with 60L of LPG that gets me 180 to 200 miles so its approx equal to 30mpg. Think I'll stick with a petrol motor - much nicer sound and cheaper too!!

a mate of mine had a 3.9v8 disco. When he thrashed it around town it'd do about 8mpg!!!!! the thrum of a v8 is a lovely sound though!!! Much better than the clatter clack of a diesel.
get an lpg conversion done!!!! it will do less to the gallon, but at 40p ish to the litre its a helluva lot cheaper.

My old girl (N Plate 300TDI) is going strong, just hit the magic 500 mile mark from the last fuel stop (£75) for the first time and still have a bit left in there, not even had the warning light yet...do i win a mountain bike?

Got a V8i with LPG convertor. Still only get 230miles to a tank but only costs £16.89 to fill up.

Doubt I will use the petrol much except if I get caught short and can't find an LPG garage.

I get about the same MPG from both Petrol and LPG (approx 230 - 240 miles) but at £16.89 to fill up with LPG its like getting 450 - 500 miles for the equivalent in cost of unleaded.

I would definitely advise a conversion. Only recently bought my V8i auto. Absolutely love it (its my first landrover) and it came with the conversion already fitted (receipt says it cost £1900 in 2002). I have been used to driving a 1.8 TDDI Ford Focus Estate that got 540 miles to a tank of diesel (10 gallon) and was quite shocked at drop in MPG but wouldn't go back.
