My 2001 4.0 decided not to start this morning after being fine last night, turns over ok but that's all.
Called AA and pointed them in the direction of the crankshaft sensor but found this to be ok(after removing it and checking it)
After a few hours checking various things there is no spark at the plugs and no fuel getting through presume this is linked to maybe an imobiliser issue although remote unlocking etc is working fine.
Oh and on holiday in mid Wales so will be a recovery home on Monday.
Grrrrrrrr

Just out of curiosity do they carry diagnostic equipment that will work on Land Rovers/Range Rovers or just basic OBD readers

Save you money on fuel though.don't think it would crank if its imobilised,do you get engine disabled message on the dash? I guess the AA checked the inertia switch.

how did you check the sensor? on a scope? or just visual?
When Mr AA initially put his diagnostics laptop on to monitor the rpm when cranking there was no readout but after removing the sensor and putting it back in we were getting around 150rpm when attempting to start!!

One check I seem to remember from my Mg forum diesel engine days which was to put sensor in plastic bag in freezer for an hour and then see if it worked, if so was deemed f.cked, but don't suppose many AA vans have a freezer on board

I think the Thor will crank when it has lost sync. Might be worth checking the LZIR map to see if there is a Nanocom or similar near you.

Yes, Thor will crank no matter what. If the code between the BECM and engine ECU has become mismatched, then you will get it cranking over but not starting.

What were the faults that were shown in the ECU?

I have Syncmates for rent which will plug in and resync the BECM/engine ECU if they have mismatched codes.

Don't know if this helps but this is what the AA diagnostics came up with!!
