The Hill Descent dash light wont go out on my Freelander 1.8 1998. I've read if its a post 2000 model change the Brake switch or change the Throttle switch on post 2001 models but cant find ANY information on pre 2000 models with the problem?

Should I give up looking and see if an auto electrician can repair it or is there an cheaper easy home fix?

Yes TC and ABS come on with ignition but go out when you start driving only HDC stays on when driving?

could be a sticking throttle the 1.8 engine is the same all the way through where the diesel changed to bmw

i no more about this when the other 2 lights are on to make the 3 amigos

but i do no that the HDC is brake and throttle related only

Hdc light on it's own has very few causes. Throttle pedal switch, a sticking or badly adjusted throttle cable or gear position implausible. So it should pretty easy to find.

I though that only related to the 2001 onward models from what I was reading?

Also it appears my rear wiper seems to operate when you turn the front wipers on and cant be turned off while there on?

From memory all petrol Freelanders have a throttle pedal switch, as the abs ecu needs to know when you want minimum speed. But if you're reverse switch is faulty this would cause the warning light as the ecu is seeing an implausible gear selection.

could be a faulty reverse light switch

Just spoke to garage to advise them on that sine they only just fitted one and turns out the revere lights where also stuck on so the new switch must of been knackered so they have ordered another so should get the car back tonight working hopefully.

Need to look at the switch wiring next I think since tried to use the HD but nothing happens no matter how often you click the switch?

Well the garage rewired the gearstick switch so now have no lights on panel on but it also appears the HDC still doesn't work?

Is the HDC electrics the switch on gear stick only or is there some more electrics I need to investigate since the red warning light is now off since they rewired the switch but now no lights come on if you flick the switch and nothing happens?
