hi guys so i used the car last night with no issues, apart from the arm kept going off, cut this has stopped after disconnecting the bonnet switch. anyway this morning i'm getting the error code anti tamper activation on the engine ecu and the car just turns over and won't start. i've cleared the code but it just reactivates as soon as i try to start the car. and it just turns over, the only diagnostics i have are either hawkeye and navcoder, i do have some bmw tools as well (acs expert etc) but they don't list the RR. is a trip to the dealers or an indie the only way to fix this?

Sounds like it's immobilised itself then?
Can you re-connect bonnet switch, clear fault, lock it all up leave it to settle down, unlock and try starting again now?

No had bonnet switch back on, but as soon as I turn the key in the ignition the tamper protection error code logs again and the car turns over but won't fire, it's quite common on bmws, and a few range rovers, some self caused from trying to manually sync ecus. Some have said its a main dealer resync, one Russian guy has said he's managed to do it with Ediabas with a modified .prg file.

When i disconnect my battery i sometimes get the fault whereby the immobiliser loses sync with the engine ECU and it will crank and not start.
I had it taken on a lorry to the main dealer who can resync it using T4 and it takes them about 5 minutes and the next time they came out to me with a laptop.
i now have a faultmate fortunately so i can do it myself which i have done twice now i think.
That's not to say you have the same fault. what year is your vehicle ?
The code i get from faultmate is below.

i'm using a hawkeye to read the codes i'm getting ews 3.3 tampering protection, i've been researching it online a few range rovers have suffered with it, and loads of bmws, all the same thing ews & ems codes go out of sync, i clear the code but as soon as i turn the ignition back on it kicks back in. my main dealer is some 20 miles away, i have got 2 indies, closer both within 10miles i'm hoping one of those maybe able to reset it and come and sort it in the morning for me, i think a fault mate could be on my purchase list

I managed to pick up a faultmate for really good money and as it already had an L322 license that i could transfer to me it only cost 50 euros admin fee at BBS.
it is an amazing piece of kit for the l322.
There aren't many diagnostic tools that will reprogramme the EWS ECU to the engine ECU.
It involves putting the Engine ECU into learn mode and the EWS sends a signal and then putting engine ECU back out of learn or something like that, i have the instructions somewhere but without the right kit it won't help you much

i'm looking at the fault mate now have you got the FCR or the MSV?, i know the one indie who i've used before has autologic diagnostics, i know he can program EMS emu's and when a had a faulty EMS on the car he fitted the used one i had not knowing about the security, and had to refit my old one and i'm sure he then had to resent the EMS ECU to the EWS, which took several attempts as the ECU was throwing all sorts of errors

Mine is MSV2 extreme, and luckily it has been very easy to do so far and i would think autologic should do it as you say.
This is the fault the allcomms come up with but the allcomms can't reprogramme only clear the fault but it returns as soon as you try to start as you have found

This is how easy it is to do with faultmate

it's a shame the allcomms won't because that was something i was thinking about buying to replace the hawkeye, but i might just save my pennies a little longer now and go for the fault mate. interestingly there is a guy on another RR site that claims he resynced his using ediabas bmw software, although i have tried various bmw software tools i can't get any to access the EMS to do the job.

I have just edited my post above, the allcomms is great and i am very lucky to have both as the allcomms is very user friendly and quick to use but the faultmate has some really indepth features that allows you to really get into the many brains inside the RR.

well i've had a right morning of it, i've got 2 indies within 10 miles of my house, called both and they were far to busy to come and look at the car (glad they are busy) so in both cases it was car had to be dropped to them and left a few days, so i needed recovery, the downside is i would of had to travel with the car and struggle to get back as they are both in the middle of nowhere. so then i started to contact local garages out of 5 local to me only one could possibly look at it thursday and had the right kit to do the job, my local breakdown/recovery company may of been able to fix it for £67 or if it needed recovering it would of been £110 but could possibly do it tomorrow or wednesday (plus the £40-£60 quoted by the indies).

by this point i was pulling my hair out so i called another garage that my mate works at, they could fix it but didn't have a portable machine so back to the recovery scenario, but he said try his mate nick at another garage, and to be fair it's a very small garage and i wouldn't of thought to even try them but got a result, called him he said i'll be there now (he was 3 miles away) turned up with his autologic plugged it in, did his magic and 5 mins later the car started and all for the bargain price of £50!

yes most definitely a handy contact, especially has he has all the range rover software on his autologic.

Morning Guys,
new member to forum, first time with a landy, love the car but hate the computers
I foolishly reset the ecu's with a hawkeye and am now getting the immobiliser lost sync with the engine ECU fault, it will crank and not start problem,
does any one know who is near Canvey Island and can reset the ews 3.3 tampering protection for a reasonable cost

Thanks
