Hello all,
I managed to sort the core plug problem, and all the welding and other stuff for the MOT, but she's still failed on the brakes...
There aren't any snail cam adjusters anywhere in the UK it seems, and as the old ones haven't been moved since the damned thing was built in '83 they are not willing to come off so I'll have to hope that I can manage as they are...so...
I decided to change the remaining three wheel cylinders anyway, but the brake-pipe ends are as solid as the adjusters and will need cutting off, so new brake pipe is needed, and here's the question...are the flares on Landy brake pipes standard flares? If possible I want to avoid buying a flare kit. I do have a refrigeration engineers flare kit (old fridge mender me) but I have no idea if the flare is standard or not.
The flare for the female brake pipe end is probably just a standard 45deg flare, but the flare for the male end is the one that's worrying me. Is this a standard flare?
Any help would be much appreciated as ever...
Just incase anybody has any ideas here's the failure breakdown:
001 front brake application uneven
002 Nearside front brake grabbing severely (why would it grab? There are new shoes front and back by the way)
003 Nearside rear brake binding (I've figured this one out...wheel cyl sticking and I'll replace it tomorrow)
004 Brake pedal creeps down when held under pressure (I don't understand this one at all!!)
005 Brake pedal spongy (air? all the above causing it?)
I'll replace all the wheel cylinders, brake pipes and ends, but I can't budge the adjusters at all..one is now rounded over as a result of trying...WD'd it, heated it, WDd again but no luck...the others will be the same no doubt.
A bl**dy white van is looking more and more appealing...help!!
