I have a 99 td5 discovery with 143k on it.
Several problems have crept up in recent months and I decided its time to decide whether to sell it on as spares or repair, and get something else,or to repair all the things that's wrong with it.
Bearing in mind the work iv done since I bought it in November last year-
oil and filters, new PAS pipes,a new radiator hose, welded up the rear chassis where they all go too.
Now I can do all the work myself, have access to everything except a ramp and a hawkeye/scan tool.
These are the list of things to do starting with the most needed...

3 Tyres
a wheel bearing
steering drag link rods
steering has play at full lock right
3 amigo lights
replace some worn bushes
paint and rustproof chassis/body/axles etc
service all the brakes
repair/replace the cracked fuel filter housing (tiny hairline crack)
repair the electric mirrors (only work up and down)
find why the heated mirror/rear screen fuse keeps blowing and doesn't work
find why the headlamp washers don't work
repair passenger front window channel-rusted off.
repair drivers door checkstrap
grease the props
replace the rear prop doughnut
replace the coolant hose spring clamps for jubilee clips as all weeping
new dash bulbs
repair the side steps as rusted to powder lol
check the clutch slave is ok as car creeps a tiny bit when 1st selected
grease all brake pipes/pas pipes
sump gasket
new gearstick gaitors
Full service-all oils and filters.

Now this is the thing, theres a stack of work to do,am I insane for contemplating spending the time and money?
As said the car has done 143k with a replacement engine fitted at 90k which had apparently done 50k according to the receipt.
If I sell and buy something else il lose money and buy more problems no doubt.
If I repair It will cost a lot of money plus my time (don't really mind that)
So after any advice or opinions on the problems and the main dilemma of what to do?
I do like the car,it tows my trailer excellent. And it was a godsend last weekend when my other car's alternator died and it towed it home. And the 7 seats/load area when folded are very useful.
Sorry for the essay,i just felt the need to vent lol

they are mostly trifling problems and to be expeted with any older vehicle ,steering does have play in full lock its the nature of the system,3 amigos will be a wheel bearing hub easy enough to change

I'd suggest keeping it - if the replacement engine really is that low mileage then there's plenty of life left.

Several of the items on your list are/or should be treated as wear & tear and thus get replaced during a vehicle's lifetime. Some of the jobs require very little time and don't need a ramp or diagnostics. (For example: Rear prop donut is quite important, easy to swap especially if you don't replace the bush in the end of the propshaft, and you'd only need a ramp for the convenince of not lying on the ground :D )

I'd be changing all oils & filters way before I'd be replacing the gearstick gaitors ;)

Consider what jobs would be required to pass its next MOT, when the MOT is due and prioritise those. Work on the other jobs in between.

The list does seem to be a big one, yes, but just work steadily through it.

The wheel bearing should solve the 3 amigos BUT you'll need a diagnostic to clear the fault which resets the lights and thus enables the ABS TC & HDC.

Post up your location (or add it in your profile) and perhaps some kind soul living near you might offer the use of their diagnostic for a couple of beers or even free.

re service before gaitors LOL yeah I will be it was just a late edit as it was something id forgot to add! lol
The Mot is due 31st October-very ironic as it no doubt will be horrific haha
Yeah I understand most is wear and tear, its just when I listed it all it was a bit overwhelming and I started to have doubts.
Im in North Yorkshire, just outside scarborough.
Thanks for the replies.

Most of what you've said is normal maintenance and day to day things wearing out! It's still got plenty of life in it yet, but it's your decision.
Cross out day to day stuff- filters, tyres, bearing, amigos and everything starting with "service", "check" or "grease" and what have you actually got left?!! If you don't fancy the work then sell it, but you'll get peanuts!

You could buy another car with more wrong with it!

sounds like you have already talked your self into getting rid pm me with a price I don't mind getting my hands dirty:)

Well its definitely getting sorted out and kept.
Did the brakes today, cleaned, regreased the sliders and descaled the discs.
Rear caliper pistons felt a little stiff, looked a bit rusty behind the seal...is there a caliper refurb kit you can buy?
Iv also hopefully sorted some new wheels and tyres after finding a couple of mine to be buckled and losing air.
i will get through the list! lol

cheaper to get another caliper off ebay, most bits are all on ebay, or paddocks, island 4x4, rimmer bros etc or even google em, discos are easy to work on, so good luck and you will get satisfaction from doing it yersell

Update.
picked up my new wheels and tyres yesterday which have completely transformed the car!
No more dangerous wobbles or vibrations, smooth as you like.
Really pleased.
