Trying to get this dam thing fitted and set up. Which way does this pulley go on to the Alternator pic 1 or 2. Thanks

I think I would go with choice 2.

Have you tried it on the engine to see how it best lines up?

But still think 2 looks the more logical way to me. All you need is another vote to confirm now:) or perhaps a couple if somebody says 1:rolleyes:

Difficult to tell from here, but if you go with option 1, isn't the pulley going to press on the alternator fan, bending the blades? And/or the belt interfere with the fan blades. Option 2 should ensure the pulley only presses on the centre of the fan, and also spaces the pulley out so the belt will be clear of the fan blades. So option 2 gets my vote, too.
 
Thanks went for option 2 but still having a nighmare, cant get anything to line up, Nearest I can get is with belt on the smallest wheel on the front military pulley, but it is still out of line slightley and catching on the second wheel.
Not sure if I need to change this to a standard 12 volt pulley or not.
Definitely something not right.

Have you got it fully out on the adjustment arm. (Front view pic pls)
I don’t know what the belt arrangement should be, but agree something don’t look right.

Yes it wont go anymore on arm, aletermator is also as far to the right as it will go on bracket too.
 
Push it in to get slack on the belt and put it on the inner big V pulley?

Tried that but its worse, It just about lines up with top pulley on water pump , its the big bottom pulley knocking everything out, if I could move the Alt slightly to the right it might improve things but it is as far as it will go on bracket.
 
I don’t know the engine or belt arrangement.
But looking back on your distributor Fred when you trial fitting the bracket there is a little spacer(painted block colour) is the bracket fitted flush to the block? That could be pushing the alternator forward (left in your pic).

Maybe you do need to change the crank pulley, but I really don’t know. What you need is somebody to get some pics of their setup.

Bodge 1, remove alt mounting bracket, machine ie grind some off the front face refit and test for alignmnet, remove and adjus/grind etc etc.

Bodge 2, fit pulley the other way around, but fit some wahsers to take the gap out so the outer edge of the pulley does not hit the fan.

V belts will take some misalignemnt, but the better you get it the longer the belt will last.

You can get quite a few different pulleys/spacers for alternators.

still looking for right length belt any run out can be dealt with by grinding mounting bracket and adding washers series 2 diesel engine in series one

Unfortunately I have a 200DI and alloy mounting for alternator hence I had a spare alternator bracket.
Your belt needs to go on the crank pulley that is inline with the water pump.
Take the tensioner arm off the engine and see if there is another bolt on engine that will give you more belt tension adjustment.
Your belt alignment does not look that far out in the pics try putting a straight edge on across water pump pulley to alternator to show what it looks like.
Question for the experts if the crank pulley is too small surely this with affect alternator output.

I would hazard a guess even a slow running alt will beat a generator hands down?

Turned Alt pulley round and the alignment is better but only on small wheel on bottom crank. It will go on second big wheel but would need much bigger belt. Never thought about spacing the top water pulley out a bit. Not sure if the way it is now will do. Will add more pics later

I doubt your alternator or maybe even your WP, will be going fast enough on the small crank pulley .. - but if the WP is more or less right, AND the Alt is more or less right ..... then I'd be looking at / for a different crank pulley ...

Can you take a pic looking down, I.E. vertically from, say 2 o'clock in your photo above ?

Wil get pic later mate, it is more or less right where it is now but it would possibly be better on the middle bigger wheel on crank but then it would need a much bigger belt.
 
Another pic and vid . To be honest I think it would probably be better on the second big wheel on bottom crank but would have to try and get a bigger belt if that is possible. then again it might work where it sits now.
