Can anybody suggest an alternative engine for my 110 defender. Either petrol ( don't say V8 'cos I can't afford to run it ) or a diesel that will meet the new London emission regs. Currently a 200tdi / LT77 gearbox which is practically perfect but as work takes me inside the M25 it will be illegal after next January. Body and chassis have had lots of time and money spent so I'm reluctant to chop it in for something else. Wondered if any body had any experience of different engine / gearbox combinations that would fit.
Thanks guys.

V8 on lpg cheap to run . Anything else engine wise that were fitted eg SA BMW straight six high conversion costs. I take it your 110 is not a estate ?

i believe the transit petrol engine will slot in without to much trouble.
Or a landrover 2.5 petrol, not much difference on the fuel cosumption or lpg

Thanks for the thoughts. It's a hard top registered as 4x4 light utility so not a prayer of re-registering. I asked. Only problem with the lpg route is that I cross to europe quite often and lpg is not welcome on the ferry or tunnel. Petrol seems to be the way forward but I want the same reliability as my 200tdi. Any idea if the transit motor will fit the gearbox?

unless it is lez compliant your wasting your time, windows and seats and it is then csw:D or put a gas cooker in it and register as motor home

If you have a look at the TFL website all of the above are stuffed even if they are private vehicles. If it's got a diesel engine and weighs more than 1.25 tonnes and is anything other than an estate or car then it's toast after next January. So many people in the south east are going to find themselves with scrap vehicles next year. Very, very depressing!

that's why I said csw it ie an estate as mine is registered as
think your spouting crap as
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/17700.aspx

commercials only from what I see and motor homes so registered estate should avoid it

might want to look at Which vehicles are affected? | Low Emission Zone | Transport for London
Second tab. Headed larger vans, minibuses and specialist diesel vehicles.
Not all CSW's were registered as estates many are 4x4 light utility. it's arbitary.
Was a serious question but if you just want to be rude forget it

which bit of body change do you not understand? is it too difficult for you to comprehend change body to csw and altered v5

Plus
Your Mother does not Work Here:D

No seriously....forget it. I'll ask someone who knows.

Cock speak to dvla to convert and change to estate or lez compliant engine- or do what the **** you like as it is your problem not mine:D
