if you son't mind travelling check out Anglian in my sig. thats our club. Very nice group. Not as active as I'd like it to be especially RTVing but the club has been doing lots of Tyros and some JTv's for the younguns! Which bring the kids through and eventually will be rtv'ing. One of the young lads got 8 all day at the nationals tyro!! I think Anglian took a few trophys in Tyro.

Sorry Owl took over your thread.....eek!!

Bump if you enjoy it alot then you'll be at the nats next year lots of fun!!

I hear the national is at Eastnor 2015 mark the end of the fender. Next year still to be decided.

Good news: well come and have a go!! I think we're at roundhill Tring Herts (bit of a trek from you but very good site) but not until the end of July Hopefully if I get my ass in gear and the weather stops ****ing on me i'll be there in the series 1

Hi jai. Where is roundhill? Which club? When is trial? :)

Given I work round there I don't know where that location is. Would love to turn up and meet folk.

Looking forward to chatting with you on weds

Cheers, no problem at all travelling, drove 5 hours in the Series once to do a night rally in Wales, then drove home 5 hours the next morning - although - to make life easier I should be getting a flat bed very soon so I can travel further in the comfort of the Disco!

Will have a look at the East Northants club as first point of call, but, will take a look at your club too :)

(and yes, Sorry Owl... :) )

Roundhill is Tring ish actually closer to Wiggington near champneys the health spa

Our club,

I didn't know you used to live in the middle of Wales?? :p

Ryders video of us playing RTV (When I got a telling off for no tailgate) and proof that i'm not good enough driver to threaten the top boys. Shows +2 axle droop with shocks fitted in the field before scruteneering and the low gearing of my 90 with 4.7 diffs.

Video looks like fun... :)

Owl,

Taken from Facebook page ALRC NAts 2013

"For anyone wondering, I just worked out that on Jeff Bazeley's fastest lap of the Comp Safari course at 6mins 29secs, he finished the lap with an average speed of 29.62mph"
(3.2 ÷ 0.10805 = 29.6159185562)

considering that max permitted average speed is 30mph it looks like he was bang on!

If it meets regs what's wrong with that?? Looking good never won races in fact there are many a farmers motor you'd struggle to compete with.

The thing that a lot of people forget is the alrc is and always has been very very good at is grass roots Motorsport. Getting the youngsters up from trialling minintractors to tyro to rtv and then taking part in their scaffold (scaffold actually exceeds minimum spec) clad comp motor. Something the bigger clubs simply do not have.

Owls motor is goin to be one of the best on the circuit for sure!!!

Don't be fooled into thinking the old farmer in his tatty motor smoking a pipe is rubbish he's probably one of the better drivers!

I wouldnt struggle to compete,as you would never catch me there, I actually have no interest in offroading in the slightest in fact I dont like it!

It was meant as a complement to owls skills not to set you off about being the best builder/driver in the world and rolls royce wasted their time developing exotics when all you need is plumbase for your stuff.
please jai post something you have built instead of a lecture;)

No lecture. And I'm building now I have very little time and money as many do these days. Seems pointless putting up a thread as our team has a facebook page. Once both motors are done then we may well put up some pics on LZ. My skill level is not that of owls nor yours press brake fabrication wise but my point is its pointless slagging off old scaffolding or red band motors because the material is perfect for the job has been used and will be used for years. Some of the top cars trialling indeed are red band motors.

Mine will never be anywhere near as nice as owls lovely motor. It impresses me everyday as its a real competition motor not some fender with half a ton of expensive tubing around its roof to make it more unstable than nothing at all. It seems to me a bit pointless but to others it's perfect ots just swing n roundabouts and all that.

In fact competing against owl will be funny as he'll be up there and me down the list but competing I will be! innyour opinion in a drunken farmers scaffold pole toting old hat design that will comply to current and next years regs fully!

Un galvanised scaffolding is perfect not galv I'm learning I should have brought a V8 disco instead of trying to gets well abused trials motor back but I'm a sucker for classic look of old school trialers my downfall I'm afraid!!

not slagging off old motors, it s your inverse snobbery that I find funny and in fact I think the uk offroading scene will implode if it goes yank style with only very wealthy people able to compete .

Any please call it sch 40 or 50 pipe colour bands for stock identification are not the type:p

Any way back to owl with his arc motor that would look good on any display stand as well as any exotic

Shocking you were gaining a distinct advantage running without a tailgate  must have rduced your drag coefficient significantly :D

And as for the mismatched truckcab, blue !!

Thats a cracking bit of land from the vid, definately going to get the 80" out.

Looks l could even trial under the YLROC colours. Now the Mrs has had a go at a TYRO she wants to drive an RTV too. Not sure if they would let me navigate for her first trial and let me drive too.

Ha, just seem the kiddies Land Rover at the end of the vid, cool.

woa there guys, you seem to be confusing me with some expert hi tech builder. It may look good on the pic's but there isn't loads of ££££ going into it, I am a Land Rover Tech by trade who learnt to weld and fabricate repairing series chassis for many years.

And as for running with the big boys when it's done, I don't think I am up to it any more. I had a big car crash back in 1997 , I was a passenger in an Astra and we had a head on with a volvo milk tanker on a country lane (you know how fast them tanker guys go from farm to farm) Well I ain't been right since all sorts of probs culminating in a MS attack in 2005 that laid me low for a couple of years.

That is why it is taking a long time to get built I have to do it when I can and as for comping I will be taking it steady and seeing how it goes. If it is too much I will put a driver in it to see what it can do and then stick to trialing. Really I just want to build a tidy motor and have a blat round. I spose being ill made me realise that life is short and if you are passionate about something you shouldn't wait for the right time just do it.

And Jai don't worry about your motor, build it best you can and get out there. It's all just different levels of competition whether you spend £100 or £100K don't matter it's going up against guys with similar machinery and competing win or lose.
