Evening all,

I'm considering an Alive remap on my 2003 TD6, not for performance but MPG. Has anyone got any advice or had it done and can offer realistic results?

Also, I'm unsure on the gearbox servicing and whether the oil should be replaced. My local LR specialist said it is a sealed unit and it'll be fine, however I read a few threads with detail of guys flushing and changing oil.

My motor has done 129k and the gearbox was replaced at 75k - it appears fine at the moment but just want to maximise it's life!

Any advice most gratefully received,

Thanks, CB

Most folks have mixed views on remaps, some do it for increased power/torque, some do it to smooth out the gearchanges. At the end of the day it's personal choice, whether to do it or not.

As for servicing the gearbox, definately get the oil and filter changed at regular intervals. LR/BMW say it's sealed for life, but GM (the gearbox manufacturers) say otherwise. Doing an oil and filter change at 40k miles or every two years is the norm for me and my g/box (still the original, but has been regularly serviced by me and previous owners) is on 188k miles and going strong, smooth and hassle free!!

The fact that the g/box was changed on yours at 75k says something, doesn't it?

Thanks, good shout. How easy is the gearbox oil change and filter to do?

Not too difficult to do, you can get the filter and gasket kit off fleabay. Make sure the correct spec ATF fluid is used though, can't remember the exact spec offhand but a search will give you the info. There's plenty of 'how to' guides if you want to do the change yourself, or find a good local indy to do it for you. Don't bother with the LR Main Dealers though, as they'll ream you on costs!!

Country boy,

check out the thread on"remaps let's sort it" the threads based on p38 diesels but might be worth a look in your case too, some great information being thrown around. Just a thought

My TD6 is running with a plug in chip (for off road use only of course)

Gear changes are sooner, so it's nicer to drive.

156k miles on the girl and she's still going strong. I prefer the plug in boxes as you can remove them if there's issues with the car or if your buying a new one.

hi Elliot, what plug in box have you got?
Been considering this myself recently mainly for a bit more poke occasionly and increased economy.
Cheers!
