Aldi's 80amp arc welder is now in the clearance section at £24.99.

Picked one up today, as at that price with a 3 year warranty I thought you really can't go wrong.

Just a heads up for you all!

I paid £39.99 for one from netto 11 years ago. Still use it, great for quick fabrication of brackets etc, built three or four trailers with it in the past, Definitely had my money's worth.

its a steal at that price.
if you can still get carbon arc brazing attachments, there good at quick brazing jobs when needed..
word of caution, you NEED to cover yourself or get ultraviolet burns and fecked eyes..
many years ago I brazed up a modified exhaust manifold in the summer with no shirt on
WRONG....got severley "sun burnt"
but the brazing was good..

cheap but 80amp is low and the duty cycle isn't good

to be fair though if it gets people through a cheap repair they are a bit of a bargain.

ive got one and i occasionally use it :)

yeah if it gets them by.

btw, they aren't the same ones from a year or so ago that go upto 135A. these are a much cheaper version out this year. only good for upto 2.5 rods.

so the inet reviews aren't for this model.

i was going to pick one up if they were the 135 or the 160 ones ;)

i think they did used to be higher amperage aye, Im not even sure what my one is to be honest.

I've still got my old SIP arc welder from the 1970's, still works fine, but it's only used when we can't be bothered to drag the Oerlikon MIG welder out, and that won't be used as much now either as we have just bought an Oerlikon TIG welder :)

Arc is fine for quick and dirty jobs, but for chassis work, MIG is much better. For panel work TIG is better again than MIG, but you need good clean metal for best results.

Some bodyworkers are just good at hiding their rubbish:

Not our work BTW, this was on the Mercedes 614D that we are converting into a motorhome.

As has been said they are difficult for thin panels as you blow holes and get dodgy welds. Great for box section etc. Easy to use and setup too
