even un-plugging the battery will not 100% guarantee the calibration stays the same, mine didn't! also the bags are a service item after a number of years,

Yeah, I try to use words like "usually" and "often" rather than "will" and "always" implying that the only certainty being "that things won't happen like that every time".
Yes, I agree that the bags are "service items", they usually last about five years, plus or minus a year or two. The last set I fitted lasted four years, but I changed them as soon as they showed signs of deflating more than usual rather than waiting for a complete failure. They are after all nothing more than a rubber tube filled with compressed air and you wouldn't expect the other rubber tubes filled with compressed air (tyres) on the vehicle to last much longer either.

Well Chaps,
I fitted the new height sensors first just to see if they would remember the calibration and even though the battery was disconnected I ended up with one side higher than the other and the suspension still sank over night.
So off came the air springs only to find day light behind them so after welding up the chassis the bags were fitted , I also changed the radius arm bushes while I was there and had a good poke around the rest of the chassis which is basically rotten but was expected.
I did splash out and buy a Hawkeye Total (done a lot of overtime over x-mas) and set up the suspension with very little effort and some home made calibration blocks.
All is well with the world the air bags were the main issue but I found the Hawkeye a great bit of kit , easy to use , self explanatory although I haven't tried key programing it is the next thing on the list after a week off in Feb to weld up the chassis before the MOT.

Thanks for your help everyone it is much appreciated and if anyone near Warminster needs to make use of a Hawkeye give me a shout.

Hi Andrew
I am currently experiencing this very problem. i have the Hawkeye Total which will not calibrate. Im not very savvy with the computer but would appreciate having a chat with you if possible.

....i have the Hawkeye Total which will not calibrate.
HI, the member you are asking was not on the forum since july and has 7 posts in 8 months so he might not answer soon... how comes that hawkeye total can't calibrate while the ''classic" one can? ... are you sure you checked well the ABS - programming menus? if your problem is that you found the calibration menu but you dont know how i'll tell you and you dont even need calibration blocks only two jacks

Hi What have you actually done or changed? Air springs /sensors? and what is the car doing?
I haven't played with my Hawkeye for a bit but if you are going through the menu correctly and the setting procedure and you can't set the Hight then there is probably a problem with one or both of your lift sensors.

Can the Hawkeye calibrate the SLS then ?? The reason I ask is, I recently bought a Nanocom Evo over the Hawkeye Total and the only reason is that I contacted Bearmach asking if it would calibrate and was told no.

based on that:

better go into the ABS - programming menu and see for yourself... you dont need blocks it's doable with two jacks or even with one under the towbar if the vehicle is on perfect plain ground, i did it several times with my classic hawkeye

I’m guessing that means it can then. That leaves me wondering why Bearmach would say it didn’t ??
I would much rather have had a tool that covered all LR’s and was also cheaper, than a Disco TD5 specific Nano. :(

Bearmach gave some strange answers in the FAQ section of hawkeye too, better plug it in and see for yourself

I don't have a Hawkeye though. I opted for the Nano Evo on the back of them saying it does not calibrate SLS. I just phoned them 5 mins ago to confirm this. They say in ABS mode, it will raise and lower suspension, but will not calibrate/set heights. Confused.com

Interesting, i'm confused too that a newer version of hawkeye can't do what the first generation can.... though it happened with Lynx too which is also made by omitec that the first generation interface was smart enough and the latest Lynx EVO is full of sh*t

It is interesting and disappointing. If it had done this I would have bought it. I also asked them if they were planning an updated version that does, and the answer was no.

I fitted new air springs and height sensors to my D2 (pictured) and set it up with the Hawkeye TOTAL, off hand I could not quote the correct process as it was a few months ago and I have slept since then but it was not difficult and was just a case of flicking through the menu. I made some blocks up out of a bit of 4x2 and set the height with no problems at all. I took it for an MOT shortly after and they didn't have to adjust the head lights so I reckon it was near enough.
Ether you are speaking to the cleaner when you have called or the guy doesn't know what he's selling!
