nope - i reckon wot yu sed is his best chance - i was just tryin to open up the discussion and help wiv his piccie posting.

I had the same problem with mine when I went to do it. I bought the repair kit first. When I got stuck like yerself I ended up using a 10 ton puller to yank the drop arm off and changed the whole thing. It still needed a large 'persuasion tool' to shock it off under load.

Ah'm not stuck any more;) :D
Cheers guys fur yer wise words;) In the end up the drop arm had tae come off, but nothin' was for budgin' it. So ah had tae improvise....

luckily ah had a spare drop arm kickin' around from last year;) :D

yu mite need to weld that up in one or two places to be able to use it agin, Buster.

Have yu got noo disk guards on there anall?

How much swearing was involved in that bit of maintenance buster? I bet they could have heard you in Alnwick.
Erm, quite a lot!!! ;) :D Ah'm sure every belt wi' the hammer sounded like Ferk or bastid or nordic forest clearin' followed by a slight ringin' in the ears of tw@!
What's even worser is me missus is away and me right arm's bloody useless!! ;) :D

ere buster i had egg-zackerly the same thing a coupla months ago, only way was to get the drop arm off - took it to a garage who had a 10 ton puller (coz it ate through my halfrauds one like it was cream cheese) and chap reckoned he was using most of the 10 tons to get it off (and bastid charged me 20 for the privelege) but it had to happen cos, like yours, the lip at the top which keeps the ball in the hole had pretty well worn flush with the edge of the hole it goes through! I used that LR4x4 site as guidance and came across the same problem - if it was only as worn as the one in the pictures it wouldn't fookin need changing so what's the bleedin point??!

Aye, 'tis a bastid Odie, unfortunately ah didnae have a 10 ton puller and had tae make do!! If ah could've driven it any where's and somebody charged me 20 nicker tae get it off, ah would've;) :D

I had to drive through the village i live in high 1st with a piece of garden wire holding the drop arm ball onto the steering arm...twice (once it all did actually come off but no harm done, the feeling of helplessness driving a moving vehicle without any steering was a bit of a wake-up call as to why not to mess with the steering!!) - luckily there is a garage at the bottom of the road i live on, which is a coast down a road with no traffic on it, and it was really the only option! Dunno why it's such a bugger to get off...well actually i do, it's coz the splined shaft is tapered, but dunno why they taper it, you'd have thought that a locking nut would be enough - talk about overkill!

HEHEEHEHEE! Ye were bloody lucky Odie;) Ah suppose if ah'd have put everything back together before a had a nibble at it, then ah could've dun the same... only aboot 3 miles tae me nearest garage;) :D
