Hi,

I have been told of a pay and play next weekend at Avon Dassett quarry near Banbury. I suppose some people know of it or may have been along.

What I want to know is, how would I get on in my pretty standard Td4? I have modulars and mud tyres but no lift kit as yet, will it be too much for the truck? Don't want to get in everybody's way if I go along for a play. It's only £20 for the full day so was thinking of going. Has anybody been, or know what it's like there?

I know this maybe should have been posted in the pay and play section but I wanted to direct it to purely Freelander owners for their advice.

Cheers
Lee

For £20 - go along and just do the bits you feel comfortable with. These pay-and-play courses will probably have bits not suitable for the Freelander's ground clearance, but if its a decent setup they'll have slippery bits that will be more challenging to 'full size trucks' than Freelander.

+1 - ground clearance and wading depth are your biggest worry. Watch how others go through the wet stuff. Take if easy and enjoy your day.

Thanks for the advice, I might just go along and have a look and see what it's like, if they have bits around that I think I could cope with then I'll have a go. Hopefully with a lift kit and a few other bits and pieces it will be able to hold its own to a degree. I know it ain't no Defender but for what it is it ahouod be ok for a play. Cheers again

I think you seriously underestimate the Freelander!

However - looking at your profile pic it looks like you've got a Sport - so you're not really "pretty standard". With its lower ride height, and presumably reduced suspension travel, the Sport is the least capable off tarmac, but should still be fun.

I don't know what the implications are for lifts on a Sport - a 50mm lifted Sport won't be the same as a 50mm lifted standard spec, plus I don't know whether the steering parts on the struts are any different and make it more troublesome to lift.
