CMW Developments Ltd. Same directors, same registered address. I had a look at their Land Rovers two years ago. Walked away.
Wish I'd walked away! Ended up with a V6 Freelander with failed head gaskets and Cat within two months of buying. The warranty turned out to be worthless and the mot t it came with was definently dodgy!

I bought my 90 from them three years ago. The tyres were all MOT failures and dangerous. I sent them a registered letter threatening legal action when they failed to pay for new tyres. They paid by return of post. The alternator went which is when I found out that the warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on. I didn't bother e mailing or phoning, just sent them a letter saying legal action had been instigated. They paid out immediately. The water pump also went and agin I just said "court" and they paid. Bunch of shysters and crooks. Don't touch them with a barge pole, whichever company name they trade under.

Really good to hear someone with the ability to play hard ball with them doing so! hats off to you

Need some advice here guys! Bought my defender from walton motors in January nice enough during the sale ect love the vehicle very good just what I wanted. Last week something failed in the transfer box it's under warranty so I contacted them but they keep stalling on giving me the details to get it fixed! What do I do?

Luke
I know its a older post.. here my google feedback for Walton last year. Forced to get a refund from my credit card company, under section 75, The Defender, with a new mot, received a prohibition notice within 3 weeks of purchase. There was a long list of faults. Walton Motors insisted via their solicitor it was in good condition. The Driving Standards Agency thought different. Also the 12 month full warranty was caped at £300? You've been warned.

The Sherrifs are Coming just featured Walton motors.
They paid up £6045 and stated, "family run business for 36 years... This incident was very out of character lol.... Made numerous attempts to resolve the dispute"

Well it was always going to happen, They had rang me a few months ago telling me there was nought wrong with my defender (a year later) I re sent to them their letters and solicitors letters and a copy of the prohibition notice, then I heard nothing after. I think perhaps they thought I had deleted all the evidence maybe?

I think I know the answer, but is there any change of opinion on these guys? I keep seeing tempting Defenders in my AutoTrader results but have read the horror stories from a few years ago. Have they improved their game?

They seem to be alright from looking at their responses to AT reviews, but I know to put my cynical hat on.

When searchin Google theres five Walton Motors companies that come up ont map. Are they linked or seperate companies?

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread.

I was going to drive four hours to have a look at their showroom over the weekend as they had a couple I liked. A yellow Safari Edition and a more Conservative Coniston green 90.

A friend of mine said to run reg plates in the MOT checker, lot of issues looking at both models. Then I found this forum post and it starts to all make sense now.

Honestly, finding a decent Defender for £15k/£16k just seems like an impossible feat right now, and it's driving me up the wall.

It just seems that every single one I like the look of has just been cheaply tarted up to try and appeal to the yank export market.

Actually, a little bit concerned I am not going to find anything. I preferably wanted something by the end of September, seems like at the moment there is just so much junk out there.

To be brutally honest any car regardless of make over 20 yrs old is junk just waiting to empty your wallet!

There is a difference between doing general maintenance and buying replacement parts and then major structural issues and other serious defects with the chassis that's what I was getting at.

Everyone tells me the age of a Defender generally doesn't matter all too much, it's all down to condition and the integrity of chassis.

Could have a 1992 model which has been cared for and enthusiast owned all its life, full-service history, be in much better shape than a Defender from 2005 that has been ragged to death by a yobbo for example.

I’ve got 2 friends who purchased their Defenders from Walton Motors. Both swear they shouldn’t have bought them for the crazy money they spent for the horrible quality of work and detail.
The Defenders look nice from afar but close up they are crap. Like a polished turd they are.

I think you'll find many have been tarted up to meet the overpriced UK market. Sit tight and wait for prices to sort themselves out or buy a cheaper model LR which can be modded to be equally as good off road. It's not like there's a shortage of Defenders and I can't for the life of me see that some of these rot boxes are worth the money being asked.
Each to their own I guess.
