Yes tried with a hefty masonry chisel, made no difference.

However..

Today received the tool to hold the coupling, it fits around the three bolts. This did the trick, still took several hefty whacks to free it but the fan is now off.

With the intercooler removed for cleaning and the radiator pushed forward I can now get a straight drill in there just. Next step is to buy a couple of cobalt drill bits and think I will give this a try myself. I will also try and pick up some cutting oil to aid the process.
Cool just remember don't panic if your going for tap and dye method if it goes wrong you always got nut and bolt option

Hello, I am looking for a mechanic in the west kent or sussex area who can do some work on my 03 disco.. There is quite a bit of work, loose manifold with possible sheared bolts, too much play on steering ball joint, diesel leak on valve behind cylinder head, significant oil leak from steering box and it also needs a new fuel filter. My knowledge of these vehicles does not extend beyond changing the spare wheel so I need a mechanic to do it all so it passes its mot. If anyone can recommend someone for the work?

I think yu will find Basingstoke isnt in Kent - or Sussex :eek:
 
obv, drill it out if you can.. but what about drilling a new hole next to it?
 
Bolt drilled successfully.. was a whole lot easier than I expected. It was not totally straight given the space, so I drilled for a nut and bolt instead of trying to clear the existing sheared bolt. Blanking plate fits like a glove.

Something good came of this whole episode, with the car effectively off road having been forced to drain the coolant, I was able to do other tasks such as clean the intercooler. Also decided too remove the inlet manifold in order to give it a good clean out of all the black tar. To my surprise I found that every single bolt/nut was loose, not even finger tight! Looking at past owners receipts there no is no mention of intake manifold ever having been removed before, so I suspect they have gradually worked loose over time. No thread lock was evident on the threads. I plan on adding some when I put it back on.
