It’s about 5mm cutting on the heater box & couple of metal or plastic diy strips. There’s various bodge methods on rr.net but best to do dash out & remove heater box. Then fix sticky flaps at same time (I’m sure puns will follow).

I got the Audi heater and as I was unable to change it myself at the time, I gave it to a local non LR garage and they said it didnt fit

It does but it requires a bit of fettling to get it to fit. Getting the new pipes all the way through the bulkhead grommets is a hell of a lot easier with 2 people and some washing up liquid.

It's also much easier while the dash is out to fit the Audi core into the heater box.

On mine I put the pipes in place, and then refitted the heater & connected it up. Then I disconnected SRS fuses & relay, so I could run the car and check the heater with the dash top removed. Nice & easy to check the flaps worked correctly, and find any leaks, etc.

I need to strip things down again to try and fix blend motors etc so maybe have another look at matrix

Can you remember what relay and fuses it was for the srs because I’m in process of stripping mine out now

Depends on the year, but mine was F7 and F23. According to RAVE they both feed the SRS ECU, although F23 also connects to Instrument Cluster..

The audi matrix is half the price of the aftermarket p38 ones and no more o rings to leak so for me its worth the extra time.

The O rings have been done once on the 96 but not on the 2001, now if it’s confirmed it’s the matrix I may change my position, but O rings at pennies;) and I would look at a repair on the original matrix (in the summer:))

Jubilee clips V O rings;).
