Hey all. Just wanted to say a great big thanks to everyone for their advice. Really appreciate it. I’m waiting for delivery of a 2012 RR Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8. Should arrive this evening and then I plan to drive up and down a few road humps and perhaps Box Hill
Hi and well done you’re now on the rollercoaster, pictures before you make it dirty. Make sure everything is on point before Box Hill run would be wise.
Cheers Tricky :)

He's got central heating now,did away with the open fire years ago.:p:D

Hi Guys,

Just thought id jump in on these thread also.

Thinking of taking the plunge with an L322 also but probably spending 8K tops on a 2007/2008 TDV8. Will obvs look for one which has got full S/H and had the required attention given. What are peoples average annual bills for servicing / maintaining them? Heard some horrific stories but would be nice to hear it from the horses mouth!

Cheers!

At least you have saved the money not spent on the Gucci handbag to go with the RR sport!;)

I have a 2011 but maybe it might be a good starting point for you. So far I’m pretty impressed with costs. I had a full service done immediately and all that needed doing was replacing the suspension arms at a cost of £600. I was honestly expecting a £3000 bill or something.

It’s definitely not fuel efficient but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Hopefully with the new suspension and a proper service, it should guzzle less.

The only niggle I have is the infotainment. I knew it would be old but I underestimated how much I’d miss Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth music as well as decent SatNav and speakers. It’s definitely on my list of things to change (if possible).

Have you had much sourcing any cars that fit your profile?

Lol I don’t know what this means

Fender is short for a Defender, the original, not the "Pretender". If you're looking for cheap and easy to fix they're hard to beat and some people cannot understand why you'd have anything else, especially if you're no good with electronics or electrical problems.

Hey Peshy,

Apologies for the slow response on this one! I got a cheap merc in the end to bridge a gap but now yet again thinking about taking the plunge with a RR! How are you getting on with yours? Any ridiculous bills yet??

Cheers!

I’ve had a few discoveries and RR over the years. My current RR is a 2014 4.4 vogue SE. I’ve had it for 4 yrs and now only do minimal mileage in it. As a load lugger it carries more than my 110 Defender but I certainly wouldn’t carry half the crappy dirty stuff I use the Defender for. Running costs are around 2 k a year ( insurance, road tax, annual service) excluding fuel. I generally use it for longer runs so consistently get 35-36 mph out of it. My advice, as others have said, go for a full fat RR & the V8 rather than V6. I’ve had both and luckily had no real problems with either of the V6’s I’ve owned. The V8 is a fantastic engine & pulls like a train.
