mikeh501: the modified 90 is as good as it looked four years ago, if not better. the owner is a fanatic, he has just resprayed some panels, e.g. roll bar because they were slightly scuffed from green laning.
she was always taken good care of.
very good point re comparison with 50th because the 50th is as land rover intended -completely stock. always properly serviced (it has 50k genuine miles on the clock).
if you compare it with this modified 90 it almost looks tatty, but it's not because it is not a good example, it is because the owner of the modified 90 is meticulous.

the 50th never had a ground up restoration, but it is in a very good condiiton.

but i know what you mean, the modified 90 is worth more because of this.
as per video, all wiring done new, galvanised chassis etc......

thank you

If it were me I'd probably go for the 4.6 due to the amount of work it has had done and looks like they've taken a lot of care over it. The 50th may be the sensible option in terms of ever selling it on and ease of getting insurance. However I'd get the insurance quoted on the 4.6 before I made my mind up!

so do you think that even though the 50th looks like in good condition it would still require a renovation later on please? -it has 50k miles.

because that would point me even more towards the modified 90.
thank you

also i would appreciate if you could watch the video and tell me if it was really built with good parts.
i am new to landy's and i will be guided by your opinions ..... i am inclinded towards the modified 90 now.....

thank you.
i really appreciate all your replies.

Can't really tell what parts were used in the video. I'm sure someone will have something bad to say about the pro comp dampers though. But looks like they've done a good job of it all. No one would do a ground up rebuild if they didn't care.

Sooner or later you will need to do work to the 50th, once it gets to 15 years old chassis might start need welding etc. Depends how it has been used and what repairs might have already been done. But with the 4.6 and galv chassis you are not going to have that problem. That is not to say that things won't go wrong...it is a landy!!

go for the 4.6. nuff said.

pro-comp arent the "best" by any means, but they will be fine. in fact looking through the spec sheet the springs and dampers are about the only thing id upgrade, but even then id leave it until there ready to be replaced. the QT, ARB, equipe, mach5, warn and recaro are all excellent.

will do :)

just one last question.
when i drove this beast i felt almost intimidated by the driving position and the feel of it.
when i drove the 50th it felt more 'normal'.
does the +2 suspension make such a big difference you think?

thank you

Agreed, sound advice

maybe. or maybe its the wider stance, harder damping etc. nothing like a challenge :p

hello... 50th is winning at the moment.
went to check her out again.
condition is excellent. only cosmetic stuff that needs sorting out.
bulkhead and cross member appear in good nick.
mileage is a documented 48k.
i think i will take the plunge :)

good luck.

my advice..... get that sucka on a lift, take someone who knows land rovers, tap the hell of that chassis, bulkhead and crossmember everywhere...

mikeh501: as from 2007 the car was sitting in a private collection and did not get driven on salty roads.
in fact from 2007 to date just 5k miles was recorded.

should i be worried for rust you think?

Yes it a landrover

agreed, you are correct.
i will check thoroughly the underside and body.
i never had a landy before, tomorrow i am going with the owner of the 50th to jack up the car, and check the underside, is there anything specific i should look out for or just the usual rotting please?
thank you....

....the modified has a galvanised chassis :(

I dont get why not goin for 4.6 but check rear cross member a they can rot and check all of chassis, bulkhead all of the body pannels can rust/ corroded , check mounts from radius arms to chassis and from bulkhead to chassis :)

The modified one looks the dogs danglies. And with a 4.6... what a machine!

If its wheelbase was 17.1 inches longer, it would be my dream vehicle! ;)
