Hi everyone,
Wondering if I could get some diagnostic direction.
Have a 04 TD5 110.
Handbrake light on constantly (I have replaced the handbrake switch and checked connections to the brake fluid and know it is neither of these). I have no traction control or abs lights ever so assume previous owner knew of problem and took out globes and tried to hide it as handbrake switch problem- well played.
I have never felt the abs work.
I scanned it up with generic scan tool (nanocom too expensive for me atm).
I got these codes 1. Pump failure 3 (pump sticking) 2. Front right sensor output too low 3. Shutter valve switch electrical failure.
If I clear stays away for the next whole trip but then comes back with next start up.
Obviously don't want to buy a pump or module unless I need too.
I am not worried about the wheel speed sensor or shutter valve switch as I know these are more easily fixed. The pump failure (sticking open) is my present concern.
Could it be say a relay or worth taking to an auto elect. Prior to starting to replace expensive parts?
Kind regards
Sam

To add to this abs relay rapidly clicks once engine starts for around 1 to 2 seconds then emergency park light comes on.

Replace the faulty sensor, reset the ECU and then try the ABS to see if it actually works.
Often the ABS is never used (on our 2005 TD5 90 it’s very difficult to get the ABS to kick in even on a wet road)
And the shuttle valve can stick due to lack of use.
We had the ABS/TC lights on, fault code was “shuttle valve”
My local LR garage reset it and then used the ABS a few times on some loose ground and it’s been fine since.
Otherwise you’ll need to repair the pump unit, they can be repaired despite the module being “non-serviceable” although it’s a bit of a pain to remove/replace.

Our handbrake light never came on with the ABS/TC lights so it does sound like someone may have tampered with the circuit, unless it’s an actual separate fault that you have.

Ok I'll try resetting and find some gravel! Thanks for the suggestion.. yes I hope all they did was remove the globes... Cheers mate!

You’ll need to at least check or replace the faulty wheel sensor first, or the fault will come straight back regardless

The only relay being the return pump relay

Thanks lightning I'll be sure to give that sensor a clean and make sure fully seated. Hopefully won't need a new one.

Thanks mystery yes I am not sure it continually clicks I may try get a replacement relay too. Check the earth under seat is clean....

An update for you lightning I went to beach today and was a dirt access road and cleared code and then tested brakes felt abs work through pedal and no lockup. Soon after handbrake light reappeared. Tried again and no abs, wheels locked up. Will have a play with that wheel sensor later in week then try again.

What make/model OBD2 code reader did you use, I have 2 and neither work with my 2004 Defender TD5.

Gmacz I will check play then..

Scooby I will get the brand for you but don't get too excited. It completely doesn't work for normal engine data/codes, only for abs. I believe the nanocom does heaps more in regards to abs this only tells me codes and function to clear.
