Not had any problems for almost a year. But now as soon as i put any preasure on the break pedal my ABS fault and traction failure warning lights come on and i loose my break lights.

The breaks seem to work fine and auto gearbox will change to all gears.

Ive checked all fuses, moved the selector through all gears, checked the break pedal switch but all are ok.

Any one had this problem before, if so could someone please help me i need to drive from northern ireland to buckinghamshire in the next few weeks.

Its a 2000 4.6 V8 vogue

Any help would be very grateful.

Check ABS sensors haven't dislodged, pads have sufficient wear, make sure battery is charged/holding a good voltage.

That's two different faults, surely.
Always start with the obvious, are your brake light bulbs O.K? Is it possible that you've only noticed that they're not working because of the other problems?
Then as far as the other warnings are concerned - do what RIDESAFE says.

Thanks for your help and pointers, i changed the battery for a halfords battery a few weeks back. Its been starting fine but if i leave it for a few days it does struggle a little.

The battery says it has a starting power of 550 not sure if this is big enough. Think ill start with the battery and move onto the ABS sensors. Dont mean to be a pain but im away from home and dont have acsess to my rave. Are they easy to find?

Not sure if it makes any difference the lights came on whilst i was trying to park and shifting from drive to reverse.

Thanks again i really appreciate your help.

Ridesafe and dogsbody.

Thanks for help started from scratch this morning, starting with bulbs. Found the the wrong buld in break light and changed it, still no joy.
Checked ABS sensor on each wheel and cleaned but still had warning lights on.
Removed break pedal switch and as soon as any pressure was released warning beep and lights came on.

Trip to breakers yard £5 spent on second hand switch and fitted on side of the road as i had no break lights

All sorted now.

Hope this helps anyone else who has this problem.

Thanks a lot for coming back, it's always nice to hear the end of a story.

So just to get this right, the brake light switch failed and this brought on the ABS light whenever you pressed the pedal?

Thats correct it also came up with traction failure. Gave it a good run yesterday and have been through all gears both hi and low and all seems fine.

The second hand part was off a 1998 HSE and had a screw in the plunger??.

Ive taken the screw out and the swithch still worked fine.

My rovers 11 years old and only has a few problems like blown harmon kardon amp, and no heat on passanger side. At some point ill get round to having a crack at the blend motor. But apart from that and a slight wander on the steering that ill hopefully get sorted this week shes not bad.
