Sounds like the same symptoms posted by someone else, when he took the master cylinder apart the valve springs were rusted up.:eek:
It's convinced me to do another flush on both P38's this summer.
It's convinced me to do a strip down of mine which i swapped out sooner than later

I suspect you won't be the only one.

Sooner or later I think we're going to need a refurb script for these modulators. That or come up with an alternative braking system but I am not sure the insurance company would like that.

I will convert to vacuum servo if needs be and ditch the ABS, easy enough to make the dash light operate.

There is no legal requirement to have ABS as far as I can discover. If fitted it has to work but is actually never tested on the MOT.
As long as the insurance company OK it, I see no problem

i thought if it was factory fitted, it must be present and work, but it seems you're right, so long as the light never comes on and the system is completely removed, you're OK, though not sure how an MOT man would cope with that ie - no bulb self test so its a fail

and assuming you can get insurance cover for modified brakes

No problem the get the lamp to do a self test.

Its not the valve discs in the modulator then - mine's a W reg Thor.

Mines the SXC100010 as well - 4 wheel TC :(
 
That was I think the 2 wheel TC version.
seems to be a few numbers flying about anr2238, anr2239 and SXC100010
The one ending 501 is the 4w TC

There appear to be 2 brake modulators available. ANR2238 and ANR2239. Presumably the ANR2239 has 4 wheel traction control capability?

Question: is it safe to fit a ANR2239 in place of a ANR2238? i.e. on a car that currently doesn't have traction control?
Short answer No. Don't know where you get your numbers from. STC2778. Two wheel traction. SXC100010 4 wheel traction. STC2779 no traction. A lot of pennies though. Neither of your numbers show on Microcat or are listed at Rimmer Bros. Very old superseded numbers.

Sorry i was confused the number ending 501 i was thinking of is for the ecu, srd100501 which is the 4 wheel type
The actual modulator for 4 wheel TC i believe is sxc100000, at least mine is (2000/W reg)
 
Mine's probably the same as yours then as mine is the same year. If it comes to the crunch and I have to swap it ,if it wont bleed, there's a few on Ebay.
Don't reckon you can get a service kit from Wabco anymore. Got it booked in at my local MOT garage for a fluid change this Friday. Did the 4 front balljoints and rear backplates a couple of months ago and I could do with a rest lol. Fixed my handbrake light last weekend as the faston connector wasn't plugged into the spade terminal at the bottom of the switch - been like that since I bought it. Centre console out etc etc. Oh the joys lol.

As long as the local mot garage understand the bleeding procedure as it must be done to the letter of the Rave the workshop manual.
