Made a start on the wings today. The headlight nose cone thing was more time consuming to replace than I thought as it is all spot welded together.
But it doesn't help I haven't done one before, second one came apart much quicker.

Unbolted and disassembled.

Nose cone disassembled, took a little longer than I thought as I said above, but it's nothing difficult, just spot welds and the odd rivets, second one came apart much quicker once I knew how.

All the individual parts where sanded whilst in pieces to make life easier, including the new bit and riveted back together.

Wing top rubbed down, I decided to try and remove as much of the vile red paint as I could, for a couple of reasons really, because I don't know what it is, finish is rough as hell, and I don't think the vehicles original paint was keyed prior to applying it and it hasn't adhered properly and kind of chips off, and under that is the original paint that is still shiny.
Not exactly flat either but not the worst I have seen, I may or may not do some repair work later on, but I think I will try the roller idea suggested the other week first.

Started re-assembly.

And done, still needs some more prep work, but it is back together and should only need minor bits.

I am reasonably pleased with how the panels have lined up, the wing skin is a little high on the front corner where the wing top and nose cone meet, but other than that all is good.
Got the other side stripped and started cleaning/prepping but didn't get time for re-assembly, so that's tomorrows job.

Good morning Aaron, I'm enjoying your thread and looking forward to updates. I noticed that you asked about the Raptor paint products and I posted a similar question yesterday.

I am considering it for my leaking roof, which is in fairly good condition, if you don't mind the cold shower from time to time. I'm thinking that the Raptor paint will stop the ingress of water.

If I use Raptor I will be using a roller and not a spray gun, because I don't have a compressor or a garage to do the job in. One of my other concerns is, how do you clean the "stipples" final surface. Here in the West of Ireland the air is very clean which allows the growth of green moss on surfaces. The question I need to answer is one of regular cleaning. I'm not sure how mant times I have washed my Defender in the past six or seven years, but it's unlikely to total more than twice!

Still looking good Aaron.
Hope you've got a couple of sheets of mesh in that there base, otherwise it will probably all crack up just when you need it the most!

Has anyone seen or heard from Aaron? It’s been a while and I miss his rebuilds!
I sent him a PM back in Sept 2017, but he didn't reply.
IIRC back at the time he was caught up in a house move that didn't happen, building his massive shed, he was working all hours and getting further drawn in to his job and, TBH, I think he had burnt himself out with several successive Landy builds. I must admit I miss him and his build threads. I hope he is doing ok.

I actually met Aaron once he is a quiet person who just seemed to enjoy working on something useful, I felt that like many young people now he was disappointed that he was willing to work hard but finding it difficult to get a job where his effort would be appreciated.
Perhaps he has found that now, and his focus has shifted, if so I am happy for him, but I too miss his rebuilding, the green one looked so good, I wish I had bought it.

Yeah I’ve also met him a few times, he is a very friendly and extremely helpful chap. The last time I spoke with him, he was juggling work with his rebuilds and was having an unbelievable amount of aggravation with the neighbours.
I hope we see him back on here soon, like James Martin, he ti was a credit to LandyZone and made it so much more interesting.

I'm friends with him on Facebook think he's given up on rebuilding Land Rovers. He has been posting pic recently of abandoned French Chateau's some the pics he has been posting are stunning and a lot of the places look like the owners just up and left leaving behind most of their belongings.

Is he living in France? Tell him we're asking after him!

Not sure if he's living in France or has just been travelling I will send him a link to this thread and maybe we can tempt him back he could tell us about his adventures and post the pics in AG

I messaged him today and shared a link to show the revival of this thread. He's doing good and been very busy but says he will pop back and say hi once he has a chance. He was chuffed that everyone is still asking after him and a bit surprised.

Great news, he’s a really nice guy and this forum is worse of as a result of his absence. Please pass on my regards.
