I think you know I'm a fan of your work Arron, but I must say you seem to be able to outdo yourself on every project.

You have patience, determination and bloodymindedness to do the job, and the skill to do it right.

You sir, should be very very proud of yourself.
+1

I've run out of superlatives. :)

Well I had to google that, bloody thicko I am

Looking mint as usual Aaron.

Cheers Ben :)

Very nice mate. ;)

Cheers Paul :)

Looks awesome, son! If I ever did another it would be in that colour and probably a rag top. :)

Thanks mate :) I sometimes wonder if I should have gone rag top or not, was a hard decision at the time.

What a fantastic job your doing and have done, and in those conditions. I moan about not having a nice workshop to work in and then people do this which is the same as I have got. (a drive way and a tarp)

well done.

Thanks :) I suppose I do alright, you just have to make the most of what you've got I suppose, even if it isn't ideal..

Fantastic work my man. Seriously impressive stuff!

Thanks :)

WOW !! - truly amazing work - a "professional" restorer would charge crazy money for that standard of finish, attention to detail and I hope you're very proud of the result. :):):):):)

Thank-you for the kind comments :) I am very happy with the results so far, and you are probably right, people seem to charge the earth for bog standard work, makes me glad I can do the whole job myself from start to finish with very little help from outsiders.

Thanks Mark :) and thank-you for the praise, I do try and improve on every project, where I go next I'm not really sure, maybe I need to do something different, along with a change of scenery maybe.
And yes I am quite proud of myself and the results, I think you lot know I put my heart and soul into these builds, and try to do the best I can, regardless how big or small the task.

Well thank-you for all the kind comments chaps, you are all too kind, but it means a lot and happy to hear you like what I am doing..

And a small update, last weekend was mainly spent tidying up all the little jobs that just get left but soon mount up, got some oil in the engine/gearbox/transfer box/axles, spats on, fitted and routed axle breathers, door cards on, I forget most of the jobs..

And the last job was to fit the light surrounds, and debating whether to paint them or not.

Then the new grill arrived on Tuesday, and thought I'd give it a try.
Now originally I was thinking about painting the headlight surrounds/grill green to match the body, but now they're on I quite like them as they are :) and more green probably isn't the answer.

Anyway, it might seem pretty finished from the outside, but their is still a long way to go yet, this weekends plan is to get the dash in, seatbox/floor pans and trans tunnel in, and any other associated wiring around the vehicle, and maybe, just maybe, I might get chance to try and start the engine.

I like the look of the black light surrounds and grille, it gets my vote.
I'm not keen on the black ends to the bumper. It looks like you have a short bumper on. Can you take them off or is there nothing underneath?

The grille looks great, full respect to you for how easy you make a rebuild look!!!!!. The down side to watching your rebuild is it leaves me feeling mine is crap lol.

That really does look better than new.:)

Jealous? me? Not even a bit ....

More like a lot !!:)

Have you decided what you are doing w.r.t wheels yet? just a thought, but what about limestone painted alloys? - seems to be a fashion right now on new cars (!) - would it work on this beautiful LR?

Love the colour scheme, and ...everything. Very good looking, with mechanicals to match. Top job!

Remind me.. what are your plans for this masterpiece after you're finished? :)

Haha :D thankyou for the kind comments :) In truth, not a lot, the odd trip out and the 1 mile commute to work every day.

Well I have stuck with the black bud :)
And the end caps do come off, it is a standard bumper underneath, not sure if they will stay or not yet.

Thanks bud :) Nothing wrong with your rebuild, but I can see where you're coming from, some peoples builds on here make mine look poo too.

Cheers bud :) good to hear people appreciate the work put in.
The original plan was steal wheels painted the same colour as the roof, but not 100% sure yet.

I would be interested to see what it looked like with steel wheels the same colour as the roof

That was the plan Ray :)

Love the colour scheme, and ...everything. Very good looking, with mechanicals to match. Top job!

Thanks mate :) I am quite please with how this one has come out, better than the rest have, but then it has cost twice as much

i like the black mate, looks good.

Is staying that way now :)

Leave the Black Black, Looks ACE !

Cheers chap, yep, staying black now, decision made :)

P.S, sorry for the slow reply chaps, forgot to reply and then half went off updating the thread for one reason or the other, but back now, updates to come.

So, the first update in a while, not a lot has happened in truth, but we aren't far off now.

The last update I had just fitted the grill/headlight surrounds, well after that I decided to get some LED headlights.

Put the floors in, trans tunnel and seatbox lids in.

The rear was then cleaned out, and new stainless door thresh and seal fitted.

The floor and wheel boxes where insulated.

And then carpet over the top.

And something for the floor. Yes, this was left over from the living room :oops:

Bought some county rear seats a couple of months ago off ebay and started fitting them.

Needs some of the grey plastic county trims to truly finish it off, but they are now sourced and on their way :)

So to continue..
The roof lining was then stripped of the old material and re-trimmed, if I'm honest it hasn't come out great, but it will do until I find a complete one in better condition as it is better than a bare roof with nothing on.

Put some rivnuts in the chassis and fitted some genuine lr mud flaps.

And made a new door card out of ply as the old one was missing, well I can't find it now o_O

Trimmed in the same stuff as above, new grab handle and jobs a good 'en.

Bought/fitted a mud style dash, I'm sure it will house some more gauges in time..

Sorted the exhaust after weeks of leaving it, not sure if their is an off the shelf solution for this, but I used the ROW spec rear and middle exhaust boxes, this left the middle exhaust flange 200mm shy of the 200tdi down pipe, so I made a extension piece up out of the old exhaust that was originally removed.
Well it might not be too pretty, but it does the job.

I then think I lost the plot and spent about £30 on stickers/badges. But in truth it is the finishing touches to the build, and is the little things that count :)

I um'ed and ah'ed what to do with the front of the vehicle for ages, I wanted it to look tidy, but not a fan of carpets in the front, in the end I decided to go with the Wright off-road matting system.
Impressed with the quality on first impressions.

Some other stuff has happened in that time, brakes/clutch bled, engine filled with coolant, runs, drives stops etc..
So what is left to do, well not a lot, got to fit the above matting and the seats, screw the dash binnacle back, column shroud and steering wheel, viscous fan and cowl, and have the interior light to sort at it is staying on permanently.
Plus I have to decide whether to fit sills, or fit the rocksliders, not decided yet.
And then I've probably got a weekend cleaning it and snagging any little bits that annoy me, tidying wires under the bonnet etc..
Oh and send it for an MOT.

First of all you're in the bad books for not updating the post for so long! ;)
Love the LED lights. I've stayed traditional cos I'm too tight.
Is that closed cell underlay foam stuff? Looks similar to the stuff I used.
Not convinced with the laminate floor, mate. Will it not be echoey and counteract the insulation?
Did you already have the seat belt bars and chassis brackets for the back or did you source them from somewhere?
Great to have an update :)

On seeing your headlining I realise you are human after all :p

Cracking job on the rest of it.
Although the LED lights are not to my taste, a bit to bling for the classic look of the rest of it, but what do I know, I dive a rusty old D1 ;)
