Random post but... Was doing some work on a farm today, roller shutter door not working and kept tripping breaker, well all 3 actually, as it was tripping through the out buildings all the way back to the main board, so we was running around like idiots re-setting them everytime we tried something else to fix the problem.
Conclusion, motor knackered, but they needed a van out and door wasn't high enough.
I said to one chap we should be able to do it manually and do you have the doobry to do it?
'Nah mate, it's 25 years old, theirs nowt like that for this door'

Anyway long story short we found what I assume was their fab shop, fuck me, that is what I want  and where I want to live  Old tools and machinery everywhere, welders, chop saws, pillar drills, lathe's and lots and lots of other accumulated rammel, everything a man could want  (or probably just me)

Had to use said fab shop to make said doobry for the roller shutter door, so U shape hammered on the end and a speed brace type handle bent on the end, door up, van out, job was a good 'en...

Sorry for the ramble chaps, but I'm sure you're used to me doing that by now

It's not just you that gets excited at the thought of a fully equipped workshop.
I managed to get space in a workshop to make my biodiesel, as I was moving my setup in I was drooling over the various machinery I was told I could use whenever I wanted, welders, lathes, pillar drills, hoist, rollers, folders etc.
Three weeks later all but a pillar drill were gone :(

As for making up the required tool, I would expect nothing else from you.

Great build mate. Love the colour. 14mnths on and I still can't decide on a colour. You got balls painting yourself. Respect that mate. Keep up the good work as its gearing me up to carry on mine soon.

So todays job, and one that is nice to have out of the way. Setting the bulkhead up for door alignment.
That means fitting the windscreen, roof, sides and doors.
Sides are some I have had in the shed many many moons, thought I'd use these as they have got windows in, although I stupidly sprayed all over them during a rolling resto some years ago, doh
And I'm not really sure if I want to go hard top van or county, I'm leaning towards county, but my main concern with that is, these windows have been fitted after by someone else and are not factory, and I'm not sure if they are in the right place, and if I'm going down the county route I want to use the proper interior trims, which I don't have and are like rocking horse poo.. so I can't test fit.
Suppose I'll just have to deal with that when I get to it, it might take 6 months to find some trims at reasonable money.

Not the easiest to set up, but as always, back and forth trying one thing or another, the odd thing was I needed no packers between chassis and bulkhead on either side, I was actually struggling for room more than anything.
But it's done and I'm happy with the gaps for the time being, and can be gotten perfect come final assembly with a little jig of the hinges.
Bulkhead was being pulled forward with a ratchet strap, so hopefully it doesn't spring back too much.
So now to take the panels back off for paint.
I'd rather spend a day now before everything is painted, I don't like to risk damaging the fresh paint, and it's easy done when pulling and shoving stuff about. Like the passenger door, that needs bending out at the bottom corner, I'd rather do that now rather than after.

Should get some more done this weekend, what I don't know yet as it's forecast to piss it down, but probably start fitting the wiring loom and dash as I can be partially undercover now.

You painting the top limestone? Looks good!

Just rebuilding the engine on our 90 atm, got a new td5 bulkhead to go on too, just needs painting MoD sand first

Oh bugger :( must have been very disappointing.. I could have looked around this place at general crap for hours

Sounds like my perfect garage/workshop.

Definitely! Plenty of room for a Land Rover or two :D

Love the colour, and the build quality :)

Thanks :) Trying to do it exactly as I want this time, as for the first time ever I am in constant work to actually pay for it.

Cheers bud :) Colour choice is always a difficult decision, took me a while to decide that's for sure. And even still, when you open the tin and you think :eek:
Have you made anymore progress with yours lately?

bloody hell aaron ,you will be using it for work next week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha, I doubt that somehow  Might look like an LR again, but lots of jobs to do, not even got an engine in it yet

Thanks Sam :) Roof will be going limestone I think, or that's the plan at least, we will have to see how it looks.
Good find on the td5 bulkhead, I wish they was as cheap as they was a few years ago
I will be rebuilding the 200tdi when I get around to it.

Bit of a wasted day today, did a few little bits this morning, but didn't want to get too much stuff out, as I was going to pick a 90 up in the afternoon.
So yes, I have bought another one  Oh dear oh dear
But I need an engine/gearbox etc for this project and it's just easier all round to buy a complete vehicle, so that is the main reason for buying it.
But the truth is, I'll probably finish the current one and restore the new one and end up having to find an engine for that aswell, what a vicious circle I may have gotten myself into :p I just can't help myself..
It is bloody rough, and I mean rough, but I'm not overly fussed for the time-being, I didn't buy it for it's straight bodywork.
Chassis seems pretty solid mind, and I might use the wolf wheels on this instead of the boosts.

I think it was £800 delivered but arrived damaged, the bit where the dash goes onto was bent quite a bit. Fair play to rimmer brothers though, they sent a fuel tank as compensation (we need a new one so thats what we asked). Cant fault their customer service at all, excellent

We're going to repair the old bulkhead as a bit of a project and sell it on i think, only went new as we want it done a bit quicker

I think with the colour you have gone for and the galv capping a the wolf wheels will look better than the boosts.
Prob off white to match an off white roof maybe?

Yes, agree with that, I've a set of wolfs here, will be painting then with what's left over from the roof. If you do end up breaking that 90, I've got a list here of bits im after. Out of interest, is that the actual paint? Or has somebody just red oxide primered it?

Ah yes, it's always a toss-up between time or money isn't it.
I ended up with £200 worth of repair panels in mine, plus blasting and plus galvanising, so not exactly the cheap route but still less than half the price of a new one or a galvanised one from a company.

Take the engine and gearbox out and then sell the rest to me.

Nooo, I like to hoard things too much :oops:o_O

your crazy......... haha but we already know that......

Take the engine and the box and resell it to me

Haha, thanks, I'd have more on the drive if I was aloud
Mind you it's finding them for not stupid money, I had been looking on and off for a while. This wasn't cheap, but still less that the rest I've seen, even if it is a shed..

Sell the engine and gearbox to me to go in my series haha!

Sold my last genuine defender 200tdi and regretted it, sold it for £1000 I think, everything, engine, gearbox, rad/intercooler/frame, air box, all pipework, the lot.
Now people are asking £1500 for engines alone at times :(
And then I'd still be scouring for all the little parts, or an air box etc.. which is why I've just bought a full vehicle instead.

I think with the colour you have gone for and the galv capping a the wolf wheels will look better than the boosts.

To be honest the boost wheels was going to be temporary, it was the tyres I wanted to use, and it was a toss up in my head between something new like the sawtooth's, or the old wolf wheels.
But now I have a set of wolf's I can soon try them on for a look :)
The boosts wanted a referb either way.

Yep, the actual paint  and yes it is red oxide  I said it was rough! It looks bloody terrible.
Not really sure what I will do with it yet, getting all the engine/gearbox stuff out is the main priority, but I will probably leave that until I'm ready, as I think I will finish up some of the painting stuff up while the garage is reasonably clean, soon be a mess again if I start stripping the engine down

What is it you need out of interest? I have lots of cra.. erm... valuable goods in the shed from various vehicles over the years.
