It hurts if it goes in your eye! Trust me!

Haha, I shan't ask how you managed that. I once filled my gun up with paint but forgot to tighten the lid, picked it up and threw it all over myself and the panel I was painting.
Couldn't get it out my hair and had to cut the bugger off

Brush painting the underside of the chassis... No safety glasses... Pain beyond words!

As mr discokids said, It is a 5.9L Cummins 6bt.

I doubt that mate, not unless I go for it full time, not got enough time to spend on it at the mo with work, I recon it'll be November/December by the time I'm done.
Yours should get easier now mate, panels will go on as quick as you can get them back from paint. It's good to see some pictures of yours too, it's a work of art, would be good to see more as it progresses :)
I'm palpitating that looks fecking fruity!!!! N there's a bloke bringing one to the Defender day at Pentillie Castle and the showy git has 2 snorkels!

Haha. I wish I'd put my name as Andy and not discokids! Anyway, what I did was the cheapo way, White vinegar, 39p from tesco. Scotchbrite and get scrubbing, made sure it was well coated and scrubbed and left for a couple of days. Compared it to some fresh galv and there was a clear difference. This was dull and a lot darker grey. Time will tell.

Ah, fair enough, I shan't do it again  I wish I never used my full name as mine. Doh!!
I will get some etch primer stuck on it first, might as well seen as it's sat it the shed already.

Not a lot done today, old chassis went this morning, to a new home, it would have sat their another 6 months if not, so happy for it to go.
Secondly, serviced brothers car, needs discs and pads on rear, pads on front, so looks like I've got that to sort next weekend.
Then removed the bulkhead and started some prep work, not entirely sure how well this bulkhead is going to look when it's painted due to the unevenness of galv coatings, but it is what it is.
I have done a little filler work on the top corners and a little on one pillar to get some out, but we'll see.
Hoping to get it etch primed and into high build primer tomorrow, so it can be flatted back and painted properly (in colour) next weekend.

Very keen to see your painting setup and space chap... I've got exactly the same job to do over the next couple of weeks.

Theirs not a lot too my setup to be honest bud, compressor is an old 100L compressor I bought second hand (currently looking a new ones) as it doesn't really keep up.
I use an ell cheapo' gun with a 1.6mm nozzle for the high build primer.
Devilbiss flg5 with 1.3mm nozzle (I think) for the top coat.
Use a little inline water trap and pressure gauge/regulator on the bottom of either gun so the gun can be set and fine tuned at actual inlet pressure.

Like these.

Paint space, well that's just done in the garage where I do everything else, just not a lot of room so has to be done a panel or 2 at a time.
Just throw a sheet over anything I don't want to get covered in over spray, wet the floor too keep dust down and off I go.
Over spray gets everywhere! So do make sure you sheet up if it's something you're bothered about, my old toolbox is covered in it

I was hoping you would start before me and see how you got on with the paint you bought, I was very tempted, but not used that type of paint before.

Haha... That's funny, there's been a few things where I've thought "oh I'll wait and see how Aaron does it!"

I've got that new 150ltr compressor, and a 1.3mm Siegel gun. I had read about damping down the floor, and that was where my worried started... I've got cardboard all over the floor (rented house) and obv the cardboard is now filthy in a variety of ways.... Perhaps I need to put down a new layer of cardboard before I think about painting, and then I can damp that each time.

Have you decided on the colour yet?

Haha, fair enough, sounds like you're all set to go anyway.
Although I'm not sure how long soggy cardboard would last, might be better with a big tarp or some visqueen maybe, then again that might be a little slippy.
As for the colour, well I chose something off a colour chart that resembled what I wanted, came mid-week, but didn't open it until today. It's not quite what I had envisaged, but I will give it a go now I have it.

Well the bulkhead is in primer. Started today like this, with a little bit of filler to rub down.

Hung up in the garage by some old washing line.

Etch primer, followed by some 2k high build.
Hoping by the time I've flatted it down most of the galv unevenness is gone.

And as I mentioned earlier, I chose a colour off a chart, something I thought was similar to, Keswick, pastel or atlantic green as I couldn't make my mind up which or what I wanted.
Well, it turned up mid week, but didn't open the tin until today, not quite what I had envisaged, in fact, not at all..
But I have it now, so I will give it a try.

I'm not great with shades of colour, but it doesn't look a million miles away from this. The so called last one off the production line.

Yours is maybe a bit darker?

You see, that was one of the few colours I wanted, and if I look at your picture and my picture side by side they don't, as you say, look a million miles away.
But I do this every time, I open the tin and then think, bloody 'ekk! That's bright, or 'I don't like that' and then they generally grow on me.
Hmm.. Need to make a decision, got a test patch drying on the bulkhead now.

It's a nightmare, mate. The test section is the way to go. You'll have to look at it in a range of lights though I reckon. The same picture of that Landy will look different in different magazines and on different laptops/monitors. Well, not to me :) But to someone like my Mrs it would.
For what it's worth, it looks pretty close to me.

No, just no.. I think theirs going to have to be a major change in direction here. I just doesn't do it for me at all.
I recon it looks worse in person than it does on the picture.
Not sure what to do it now, need to choose a colour so I can paint it next weekend.
Will be going grey or something at this rate, although reading back, I do like mr farmershort's suggestion of marine blue..
Bloody paint colours, I can never make a decision!

Maybe just the photo, but it does look a few shades darker than the heritage colour green. Was the heritage green the colour you were looking for?

Keep up the good work, always enjoy seeing what you have done.

Cheers

I think the colour choice is also swayed by the style of the finished vehicle, Std , pick up, CSW, off road biased, extreme comp motor.

If it is a std vehicle then I always think one of the traditional colours is a good way to go.

Cheers
