Aaron, out of interest, where do you order all your parts from, not so much this project but your last one. When I'm looking for bits its mainly paddock and Rimmers. Always looking for other cheaper suppliers. BTW, this engine conversion is something else.

I use LR direct for all the lr bits.
Mainly because I can choose the supplier. I.e allmakes, Bearmach, Britpart :eek: Or if you're feeling flush genuine LR.
Oh, And yeah, Cheers :) This is actually the first engine conversion I've done.

I would stick a copper washer or two on the temp sender just to be sure of a good seal.

Don't think it's copper, But I reused the original washer that was on the temp sender from the old 200.

Oh to add, I did actually use some ptfe tape on the threads as well as Thor mentioned.

So today I finally got the core plug I'd been waiting for.
More my fault than anything for keep putting it off.
This is the little bugger and what a c*nt it was to fit :mad:
Wish I'd done it when the engine was out.

So with that now in I stuck some oil in it.
Connected the battery and turned it over.
Hmm, Slight problem :( Appears I bought the wrong starter.
I've bough a 10 tooth as opposed to 9 tooth.
So it wouldn't turn it over properly.
The problem now is I cant actually find a 9 tooth 12v starter. So may have the 24v one converted.
So me being me and I fancied having it running I stuck the 24v starter on.
Conected 2 batteries together and fired it up :D
Didn't run it for long as theirs no water etc. in it. So not a good idea.
But was nice to here it running :D Even if I'm not really ready :p

Also got a few pics of the adapter plate.
Apparently just waiting for a new seal for the transfer box and he's going to sort a day to bring it down :)

Fair to say I can't wait to get it back now :)

That was the original plan :)
I then decided 12v starter would be a much simpler way.
But it hasn't worked out like that :(
Need to have a think about it.
Although it spins over nice and fast on 24v so should give good starting :D
 
I had a mk2 escort rally car that had 24 volt starting. Just had second battery wired in via a solenoid IIRC used to blow Lucas starters apart unless I welded the backplate on.

Well I had a proper read up on it last night and it appears what I need is a series parallel switch.
Problem being I can't find much in the uk, So may have to be from the states.
Not ideal and postage and imports duty is going to cost a few quid :(

Now I'm pretty sure I've got another decent sized battery in the shed.
So if I have that gives me 2 roughly the same size and I'll go down this route.
If I have to buy another battery then it's going to start getting expensive and will get the starter converted to 12v
 
Aaron, here's a pic of a ZF 5-42 with a top gear linkage, not sure where these are sourced from but maybe I can find out.

Ah, Not seen one like that :)
I know the ford f350 and others used the same box and had a lr type shifter.
i.e straight out of the top with no linkage.
Or I'll try and make the lt77 one work as others have done.

i think im going to try bodge one out of the lt77 and the one on the zf, if that doesnt work ill have to come up with another plan!

I was selling these £60 posted as I bought a load from the states from some red neck truck breaker, they went fast:D
Did keep one back for me but decided to sell it to stop myself doing projects;)

Sounds more like it :p
Guess they're out their for reasonable money then :)

It's getting their :) Although it'd be getting their quicker if I pulled my finger out :eek:

I get mine from ebay mainly, Or local paint shop if theirs one close to you.

Well things haven't really been going to plan of late :(
One of the problems being the starter, Which I think I've found someone to convert it to 12v.
So I've took it off ready and just waiting on a price.

Filled it up with water, With the intentions of letting it run for a while and the rad seems to have sprang a leak :(
So if anyone's got a TD rad they want to sell, Let me know :)

On a positive note, I think the gearbox is coming back on Friday :D

Anyway, As I mentioned a while back, I'd decided to intercool it.
So I bought the biggest I could with the correct sized inlet and outlet.
I could have gone bigger, But that means reducing pipe sizes.
Easier if I just stick to the same throughout.

Offered it up in place and made a couple of brackets to hang it off the slam panel.
Think I'll make some for the bottom as well at some point.

Drilled some holes in the wings with a hole saw. The other bits where hole sawed out after.

And all bolted in place.
Have ordered some 90* bends to go through the wings and I'll work the rest out when I know where they're going to sit.
