Get this,got in the Rangie this morning,started her up,noticed something in the rear view mirror,got out with engine running,while getting out brushed the door lock thingy with my arm,shut door,FxxxxD

Couldnt get into car,Rangie ticking over lovely,me ripping hair out'cos keys to everything are in the Rangie's ignition,so had to borrow ladder and smash a window to get into my house to get spare keys!

Shouldnt the central locking reject if car is running?

its a anti-hijack system when yer in it it stops some towrag draggin you out the motor at the traffic lights and havin it away ;)
 
Not down here in France,not only do they cheat a football but they charge a fortune for spares

Not far wrong. I've also heard its safer to drive with the doors locked in case you ever do a barrel roll. Doors won't fly open and you won't get flung out. How that lock will prevent it if the latch won't I didn't ask! However I had an Acura that automatically locked the doors at 10km/h and apparently would unlock them again if the airbags fired.

Loads of modern cars do that now, once you get past walking pace. My misses is always resting her arm on the door panel and hitting the button, so although it didn't come as standard I get the same effect.:D but at least she's in the car and can let me back in.
 
If you get a brick and give a good hit to the right hand inside front wheel arch, you need to hit it where the kick panel is inside, that is where the fuel cut off inertia switch is, if you hit it hard enough it will trip, then cuts the fuel off and stops the engine and unlocks the doors, it's all a fail safe device if the vehicle is in a collision and the doors are locked. it only works if the ignition is on.
 
Was the door fully closed ? I think you will find if it was only on the first part of the latch fully closing it will pop the central locking back up. I took great pleasure in demonstrating this to an old friend who stopped in the middle of nowhere for a tinkle and did exacly the same. In his panic he broke the window to get back in. If only he had rung me on his phone that was locked in the car , I would have told him what to do.......
 
Very funny REWMER,typical Clactonian humour(of which i am all too familar with being from Colchester originaly),the door was fully closed and fully shut,i was lucky i was at home unlike your friend who's jimmy riddle cost more than a penny
 
Its also worth knowing that the top rear corner of the doors can be levered out to quite an alarming degree, enough to allow a hooky thing to pull up the knob.
 
I just know that this is going to happen to me one day so im gonna gaffa tape a spare key under the chassis and im not tellin where!!!;)
 
I reckon your door lock must be knackered or something. My P38 will automagically unlock if you push the lock button down while the door is open. Saved me several times. Friends 99 and 01 P38 does this also.

EDIT - Pretty sure this can be setup within the BeCM under the LAZY LOCKING section. Will have to pull out the pooter and have a look at some point.
