Hi all,
My car is a '97 4.6 HSE. Now that spring has finally reached Norway, I've noticed that the aircon fails to keep the interior temperature at the set level. It does seem to cool the air slightly, but on other cars the air is freezing when it exits the vents. I've also noticed that there is a symbol of an open book and an exclamation-mark in the climate control display.
What do you think - does it just need a top-up of gas, or is there something seriously wrong here?

Regards,
Henrik

It probably needs a re-gas. Butyou will probably end up have to replace a leaky condensor. The Garage that does the re-gassing should evacuate the system and do a leak test before re-gassing.

The sun has come out :clap2: and so has the number of aircon related posts !!
:hysterically_laughi

Ought to live in Ireland, need the heater on "HI" all year round.

get it into say Halfords for a regas.

They will inspect/check and the gas will have a dye so you will see the where the leak is.

normally top corners of the condenser.

they will then tell you they cannot regas as you have a leak and you will know from where.

they will then purge your system and you are now ready to fix /change whatever they have found. Take the car away fix it and then take it back. They will then recharge and hopefully all will be well.
job done. They charged me £70 last year for my two visits and the condenser is around £80. I wouldn't bother repairing. get a new one.

have fun.
