I've not long bought my disco and i've bought egr blanking kit, a de cat pipe n straight threw exhaust and k & n high air flow kit.on the k&n kits insructions it doesnt show the air flow meter, do i fit the new filter to the air flow meter or can i do away with it? Also will i have to adjust the fuel to air mixture after fitting the new exhaust? Any advise will be appreciated. Cheers

This is mine...

And yes - you will need to keep the airflow meter.

Obviously I still had the EGR in place then, but it's removed now too... i can provide a photo on request :D

I spoke with a few people about K&N fliters, most seem to think stick with the standard, ofr a number of different reasons, also some have said the MAF would not like a K&N, they were saying it would muck it up due to the oil in the filter, I dont know if this is true, but hey standard filters are cheap to replace anyway.

Looking at that type of filter, no good for wading with a snorkel, lol.

the previous owner fitted it to my car, and it seems to drive just fine!

having said that, though, i've never driven one with a standard airbox either, so who knows!

As for wading, you are right - it's useless. Well... it's covered in filter oil, so light splashes will bounce off it, but if it's even slightly submerged, it'll cause all kinds of hell.

I need to hook the snorkel up on mine (you can see it poking through on the right), but can't find an airbox that'll fit between the second battery & ABS unit! That's for another discussion though... :D

MMMM lovely a open filter next to a red hot turbo sucking in all that nice hot air ! Not good for performance or economy working against the intercooler.
better off with either a standard filter in the standard air box or a panel filter in the standard air box as the standard box takes it's feed from outside of the engine bay where it's a lot cooler

The filter wont be any closer to the turbo than the standard box, plus the new one comes with a flexi pipe you fit below the bumper and up directly to the filter pulling in air from outside the engine bay.surely this has to be more efficient.

In a word NO the "cold feed" has a diameter of 2-2.5" even if you managed to get it pointing directly forwards after all the twists and turns you would have to put in it to get it to point at the filter there would hardly be any thing coming through it.
and as for being as close to the turbo as the standard box, the standard box draws cold air in from outside the engine bay, as it passes by the turbo insulated from the heat by the air box it may increase in temperature slightly. But no where near as much as drawing red hot air directly in from under the bonnet!

You gotta photo of your 2nd battery location mr sponge?? :D

Not exactly... I will take one when it's next daylight though!

To try and explain using the same picture though, you see that thick red wire poking in at the bottom-right corner of the image? That's coming from the battery.

The battery is basically in front of where the standard airbox would go. It is where the hydraulic jack should live, i believe.

And as for the air filter sucking air in from inside the engine bay (like mine is), I agree - it's far from ideal, especially when you have a perfectly good snorkel stuck to the side of the vehicle!
