Hi guys so i thought id make a post about my build im doing, so basically ive always wanted a classic in Plymouth blue mainly due to the famous essex boys one (marmite subject i know)
Anyway when i was looking even the cars upto 10k needed work so i decided id just build my own. Now im no mechanic by any means but my friend is a welder and has done alot of car restorations in the past and ive done afew motorbike engine conversions in quads ect and i maintain all my other vehicles so apart from outsourcing the paint and interior retrim the project will be done by us on weekends and the odd evening here and there.

The car we picked looked great on the surface and was running and driving with an mot just had abs issues so we bought it and got it home and after a wash it looked even better.

Then we looked more into it and found more and more rust and dodgy repairs so we decided to make a start so i ordered most of the parts i could get hold of new prior to starting which included

Disks, pads, calipers
Servo and master cylinder from a non abs disco 1
Upgraded Springs and shocks
Upgraded anti roll bars and drop links
Full polybush kit
Body mounts
All lights, indicators, fog lights
Steering damper
Full stainless exhaust system with headers
Full pioneer speaker package with headunit
Engine rebuild gasket kit
Uprated cam
Megasquirt ms2x injection system
Spark plugs
Enclosed air box
Every available body repair pannel with cross members ect (see pics)
Grill and lower bumper vallance
Aftermarket central locking kit

The used parts i bought were
Disco 1 door handles as i prefer black to chrome
A full set of doors as spares to nick sections to repair rusty bits
Rear wings

I then went to the upholstery shop and have the seats booked in for a retrim in leather with perforated center inlays

The paint shop is also sorted as we know someone

We then started by stripping down and making a start at the rear, il attach some pics but where it stands at the moment is we basically have the rear sections in and the drivers side sill and footwell pannel, we then turned it around to get to the other side sill ect and then removed the engine and started going through the wiring ect to make it as minimal as possible to help with getting it out the way to cut the pannels out ect there's still alot of patching it odd bits ect but we wanted to get the big stuff out the way first to get it somewhere near bieng solid, im hoping i can lean on you guys if i come across anything as theres already been plenty of scouring google ect to find any info on things so yea thats where we are at current and il try and update as progress happens

Looks like an interesting project, similar to what I am doing at the moment will watch progress with interest.

Great that you are rescuing another classic well done so far

Cheers, its one of those where it has to get much much worse before any sign of it getting better isnt it but hopefully by xmas the welding and rust repair should be complete and we can move on to more interesting things, im sure il need to pick your brains along the way if thats ok the biggest suprise ive found so far is the sheer number of connectors ect behind the dash that dont have anything to plug into them i can only assume its the same loom on all models regardless of what items were picked from new or i hope its that haha

Hi guys quick update i was really buisy through December with work (gas engineer) so im not as far as i would like but the majority of the welding work is complete the new front end is on and the wiring is getting there in terms of removing the un needed connectors and plugs ect im hoping to have the welding fully completed by the end of the month and im just waiting on the parts to rebuild the engine and my megasquirt kit to arrive after a short delay due to nigels operations

Weve also decided to make the bulk head as smooth as possible and were rerouting the wiring to get as cleaner look as possible when it's completed so once its closer il get some better pics as i didn't take many

Im having a really stupid moment but can anyone confirm what this switch is for is it to disable all the window switches to stop the windows bieng operated?

Cheers guys

Cheers guys it was one of those situations where i went completely stupid and was talking myself out of it bieng that

Hi guys quick update so the welding is now complete and its fully solid again all seam sealed and the new suspension, polybush kit, arbs and steering damper are now on, weve painted the engine bay with its first coat of Plymouth blue. Weve come to test the blower box unit which didnt work when we got the car and found its got wires all over the place theres 9 connections randomly all over it then 2 relays ect so does anyone happen to have any info these heater boxes as i was sort of under the impression it would be a main plug for the power of the unit that all the other parts of the unit were contained within that unit. Il grab some pics later but im getting the feeling the previous owner fitted a new unit and never wired anything up and left random connections just shoved behind the dash. Im also considering going down the complete new main loom route as the megasquirt system is a full new loom for the engine and with the other issues were having ( wipers dont go off, rear windows dont operate from the car but work when bench tested and a whole host of other problems im wondering if that might be the easiest way to solve it.

Can any recommend anywhere that might offer a new loom or point me in the right direction?

Cheers for any help guys
