Hi

I have bought a genuine and tidy 90 300tdi 96 N but its steering is not precise and it wanders following all indentations in the road. ???

I have just fitted new steering damper had the wheels balanced and tracked. 12 months Mot issued 2 weeks ago so bushes should be OK

Where should I go next ??? power steering seems fine (doesnt always self center to quick ) but seems little play when you move the steering the wheels respond with very little hesitation :confused:

Mot dont mean owt!! Place where I used to take mine does free retest, they ain't r8 bothered about some stuff as it costs em time in the retest.

Badly worn tyres can do this, a sticky brake will pull one side on different surfaces, potentially even an off centre steering box, I had a horrible steering prob with a Nova that was just due to a rack off centre, that would snatch the steering out your hands, I dismissed the suggestion initially.

Having not had it done and cannot recall where it is adjusted but I recall from a 4x4 is born that the axles have a lateral adjustment to correct crabbing, this would need 4 wheel alignment.

Do you have a lift? Incorrect caster can cause problems with tracking straight.

Most of these suggestions are generic for most vehicles, having not had the prob myself I cannot necessarily relate them to a land rovers geometry

id change bushes on rear trailing arms and the bushes on the rear a-frame, it worked for me

If everything that the other guys have said is all good and fine and you still have issues, get your self a terrafirma RTC steering damper, should eliminate wander, sorted mine out.
