This wiring is breaking me. Never use second hand looms :confused::eek:
So stuck not even sure what to do next! Got some bits working... slightly
Do you not have a wiring diagram for the TD5? Can't remember if you have mentioned that!

Got some parts. Not even 100% it's a td5 loom it's been spliced that much honestly
Lots either doesn't match up or doesn't exist. Honestly breaking me trying to bell everything out and figure what's what

At least a TD5 wiring diagram would help you identify some wires. @Kwakerman sent me a 300Tdi one. He may have a TD5 one. He's an electric wizard I reckon :)

It's kight be 300 or td5 I honestly don't know, only bit I'm thinking td5 is the multiple matches, but then if the tdci multiple is same might be part that came with bulkhead it's getting confusing quickly

Here's a link to the 300Tdi one LINKY Very handy for finding the colours of the wires and tracking them.
If you googled you'd find the others ie TD5, TDCi I reckon.

Ye but everytime I try match one from a diagram half matches half doesn't sorta thing I can find them but they arnt matching anything I'm just hoping the ones ic put in did match their purpose haha

That's most of the fun. I'd like to strip mine back to the chassis and rebuild it, but it's not in too bad state. I also don't have the space. :( Your posts are a good reference for some bit I'm doing though. Learning from the lessons you've learned, so thanks for sharing the gory details.

Haha glad my pain has helped you! What are you doing that it's benefiting?

You're work on the heater swap out was interesting. I'm now thinking of doing something similar. Also, I'm interested in the oil radiator you installed. I have no idea what temperature my gearbox or engine oil gets too, but I do drive it along the motorway, often at 70mph if the wind is favourable. I take the point raised about oil degradation with consistent high temperature. Where did you mount the rad and do you know if there is a sensor port in the standard 300tdi R380 gearbox or transfer box?

I haven't it was brown who has, there us two bunged holes on the r380 to allow you to connect two pipes to mount to a see rate cooling rad. If you don't have an AC fender I'd suggest getting an AC grill and mounting it where the ac rad would go at the front, and maybe putting an electric fan in for more air movement.
As I was discussing with brown I know that the v8 models came with heat senders in the gear and transmission oil but not sure about standard ones. You can fit diy ones though. Need to check mine, gana finish clocks first though.
If you swap the heater for TDCI go for full bulkhead. Few niggles bit it's working. Not sure if you could fit it to a old bulkhead or not. If you do it you may need to swap your box for a long bellhousing disco one as the tdci bulkhead sits alot further back. If it's a 200 you might get away with it I think they sit further back in the engine bay? Not 100% though
You could also install a vdo temp gauge to give you accurate oil temp readings and see whether you ever get over 100 - which is when it starts becoming more needed

I've got the TD5 electrical manual but it is the paper based version. It would take me ages to scan it!

Re: #Benny_Boy 's query, the oil cooler is one I got off Ebay and it's mounted on brackets I made out of aluminium strip, and hangs down around about the position of the bulkhead behind the front seats. It sits well up above the level of the chassis rails and propshaft so shouldn't be too vulnerable. I got one of those high capacity transfer box oil pans and put a couple of tank connectors on it, and also tapped a 22mm hole in it to take a temperature sender. There doesn't seem to be any provision for alternative points for temp senders or pipes on my Defender transfer box or main gearbox, but others may vary depending on whether they're for V8s or Discoverys.

Interesting. I'll look into the idea of fitting a sensor before going any further. Shoold be easy enought to drain the transfer box and put in a tapped hole. Thanks.

Just to clarify, the transfer box temperature gauge is a capillary one and it goes in a tapped hole provide in the Rocky Mountain Spares high capacity transfer box sump. The oil cooler pump is triggered by an electric sender that goes in another hole that I made specially for it.

you can get an oil transfer pipe on the side of extension casing that has provision for a temp sender

Anyone know where the glow plug warning light is fed from? I don't have the wire it states in the 300 or td5 manual and I'm guessing it comes off the glow plug relay?

So got most of it working I think.
Indicators not showing but unsure if that's just cos engine isn't on or not
Needs jumping but beed spare pair of hands so van doesn't get nicked haha so not today
From looking at the td5 wiring diagram I think the fuel warning light is fed from a T joint before the fuel gauge. Not 100% so not connected, the warning guage should be green/black but the only wires I'm left with that are close is light light green/grey X2. Any one know whether that could be fuel lever or what the other spares are?
Green orange
Yellow purple
Blue black
Green brown.
And the two light green greys.
Couldn't see if indicators flashed or not cos no bulbs in
Appreciate any help!

Green brown poss low fuel light?
