I'm restoring my 90 at the moment, I've resprayed it and got to the part where I'm putting everything back on. When it came to my rear door lock, basically it all fell to bits, and I had springs and bits of lock everywhere!
So what I want to know is, does anyone either know how it all goes back together, (I think all the part are present and not broken) or if not where I can get a new lock?

Any help would be much appriociated! Please save my sanity, I've spent hours trying to figure out how it all goes back together!

As per the other thread you posted on - I got a replacement lock off eBay. I had to change the striker plate but that was because I bought a newer lock.

you would be best buying one from paddock spares thats where i buy a lot of stuff and there not to dear just get the right one for your year
Part number is MUC1030

395037 Rear door handle - from LA939975 to 1A622423

The earlier one is more expensive so might be as well changing the catch as well i am sure the part number is MRC8444
Sometimes it is as well replacing the 2 of them

Quite often ebay listing are more money than paddocks or other dealers.

I recently bought a new door seal from devon 4x4 over the counter for £11, normally on ebay for £16 or more!!!

ebay is ok for some thing but there usually poorer quality than you would get from paddocks, john craddocks or lrseries.
I prefer to stick to a well know supplier, i had a brake calliper go faulty after 10 months(seal stuck to the piston) a quick phone call to paddocks and i had a new calliper and replacement bolts by lunch time the next day with no hassel whats so ever, whats the chances of that with ebay ??

I replaced mine with an allmakes one, fitted perfectly and cheaper than an original part. The problem with buying a used secondhand one is you never know how much wear there is. On mine the little internal cam failed which I'm led to believe, is a common fault.

The door handle lock mechanism broke on mine so I just fitted a new one and fitted the barrel out of the old one so I didn't have a different key to the other doors. If you do this you have to keep the key in the barrel when you take it out as this will hold it all together. Risk of springs and bits everywhere if you don't.

As above.

when i bought my 90 the rear door wouldnt stay locked when i turned the key back to remove it.

Went to breakers yard and bought a new one and took the barrel out my old one and just used the mech from the new.

bit of WD40 will help to remove barrel. cant remember how much but wasnt alot think about £8.

Thanks to all for your help! very much appriciated. I'm a newbie to the landy scene, so don't know all the contacts yet. Now ask me anything about a classic VW and I'll tell you anything, I'm even a tech adviser on a mag to them lol, but when it comes to landys, I'm still a bit lost. I'll give paddocks a ring then, I take it I'll find there phone number in one of the mags, or by googling them?:)
