Hi I have just bought a land rover 90 truck cab and it's my first landy
I have no knowledge about working on landrovers but I do have my trusty Haynes manual to help me haha.

There is a noise coming from underneath the seat box the only way I can describe the noise is like a vibrating, grinding noise. It happens when u let off the accelerator and just as you put on but then dissapears when drive is taken up.
I have been told that it is the UJs on the prop so I checked both props and the front had slight play so I replaced it with a new 1 but the noise is still there. A friend Is telling me that it could be the gearbox and transfer box but replacing that is a bit expensive so what should I check before doing this?

If any1 knows of any other things that I can check it will be much appreciated.
Thanks

check props and diff flanges (there should be no play except rotational)remove one prop at a time and try in diff lock

I had this and it was cv joint. Try the ujs first though cos their cheeep and quite easy.

Try changing the oil in the gear / transfer box. I had the same thing with mine. The previous owner left it standing for about 6 months after filling every nook and cranny with muddy water.

Input shaft , tranny box to g box !!bearing and spline wear!! Remove cover and bearing plate ,remove input gear , replace bearings and outer races put it back !! Could buy a cross drilled shaft , may last longer !!

Thanks guys I shall check these out tomorrow, and post the verdict

Another question I have is it seems to be very sluggish getting up to speed, especially going up hills, I have been told the turbo could be the problem but how will I be able to check if it is that?

the td aint the quickest thing on the planet

id check your diffs. the main bearing, ive had this problem 4/5 times over the years across 3 different landys

When you check the UJ's chock the wheels, release the handbrake and make sure it's out of gear.

If you don't do this you won't feel the play in the prop UJ's
