Now that us responsible 4x4 owners can regale our doubters with tales of pulling neighbours out of ditches, rushing expectant mothers through snow storms and other such acts that a smart(arse) car can not...:crazy_driver:

i really dont give two tosses what anyone thinks of my car, i love it, warts and all!! i often say 'id rather push a range rover than drive any other car'

which is just exactly what usually happens!!!!

I think a lot of "newer" 4x4 owners will still have a bad rep - I haven't seen a single one stop to help anyone out! Now OK, that's because a lot of them have struggled themselves, but even so - haven't seen a P38 owner help anyone either!! Having said that, we were helping loads out on a hill one afternoon and two Defenders stopped for a chat but neither wanted to help, and they had tow ropes (I asked) - w@nkers. In fact, the only vehciles I've seen tow anybody out were 2 RRC's (mine and a white D-reg diesel) and an L200 (which struggled!) - and that's it!

Oh well, I like the idea of karma so what goes around comes around!
 
Not all help comes in the form of towing. I spent all day in the thick of the snow getting staff to and from the local hospital and dropping off medical supplies to people who couldnt get out. But you still get the look form people...even when ur trying to help out. And i was doing it all on lpg too!!!!!. Also nice to see a couple of the mechanics from the local Indy helping out with similar as noone had turned up for there services ect. Nice one terrain 4x4
 
Yeah, of course! But round here it's mostly 60 or 10-reg Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports and X5's with the odd Q7 and XC90 thrown in, and I'm fairly certain none of them were carrying medical supplies! I think they were just feeling smug that they could go (almost) anywhere still - I say almost, because the X3, X5 and XC90 weren't getting up Rectory Hill in Amersham the other day that's for sure!! :D

Just think it's sad that people who can help don't! Like you say, not all about towing - on top of towing people up hills (inc one medical supplies truck) I spent a good hour or more clearing a hill of people who'd got stuck too - fortunately round here there's enough Ambulance/Police Defender's to ferry other supplies about!
 
I have to admit mine spends most of it's time stitting on the drive, untill the weather turns foul. Mind you it's really a slow rolling restoration becuse I like it, rather than a daily driver, but handy when things get horrible!. And yes it's pulled a few stuck cars out this week, and been on shopping runs other than my own. It's down for new outer sills and rear X member in the summer, and that's the last of the rot.
 
I've not seen anybody driving the newer Rangies stopping to offer assistance (must be cos' they're struggling on their low profile tyres:der:), but my wife is currently making several runs a day in our Disco ferrying nurses to and from our local hospitals, several of them have said that they're going to trade in their cars for Landies as soon as they can because they are so impressed with how the Disco is not bothered by the snow/ice.
 
Yep, my missus is a nurse so took her to work one day and picked up one of her colleagues en route as well and dropped her home in the evening - don't understand why more 4x4 owners don't help! Just the world we live in, I guess...
 
Everybody round here loves my Range Rover! And I've only owned her for 2 days! I went out for a run earlier and ended up pulling 5 people up steep hills outside my house and earning £30!

Hmm!! I did have one couple INSIST I took a tenner from then - I flatly refused, so the lady ran round the side of the RR, opened the passenger door, chucked it at my missus and said "thank you, merry christmas, buy a bottle of wine!" and ran off! So I gratefully accepted that one, but have refused all other offers :) Having said that, it's costing a fortune in fuel....!:eek:

Yeah, but we're not a charity. I was offered a few quid and I said no at first but then when they insisted I accepted, cover fuel expenses.

So far towed, 2 cars, mates van and a HGV tractor unit :p the latter was the most fun!

(got a 300tdi disco manual)

this is also a question, i'm thinking of getting a p38 anyone know if they have as much pulling power as a 300?
 
True Jamie - I agree we're not a charity, but I'd never ask for money for a tow, although I think it's nice for people to offer - I would.

Last year there's one really bad dip near us, loads of cars stuck. So 2 lads with Defenders said "£10 a tow and we'll give all proceeds to charity, minus a bit for fuel" which I thought was a nice idea actually. Everyone was happy to pay apart from one a-hole who accepted a tow, then tried to refuse to pay-up - tw@t! They blocked his car in unless he paid, so his choice was back down the hill or stuck where he was!!

I hope the lads did give the cash to charity as they said.

As for the P38, guess it depends which model? 2.5 DSE, 4.0 or 4.6 V8? If the DSE, I think pulling power is similar if not a little better to the 300TDi, but I'm not certain.
 
i have been towing all sorts of people out of trouble here in redbourn, but what really took the biscuit was when i was compelled to tow a struggling ambulance out of trouble trying to get to someone in need and got beeped at for holding up some stuck up woman in her 10 plate x5 who had lost all human compassion at this festive time!!, are'nt people great,, never mind my p38 proved yet again not all 4x4 gas guzzlers are driven by ****s!!
 
Pulled a few cars out of ditches & up hills over the last couple of weeks. With exception of 1 smart car the rest were VW's. Not sure if this was coincidence or if VW just make a rather slippery car. Thought I was going to have to help an 18 wheeler today but he managed in the end. I was game all the same.
 
mainly beemers and mercs that get stuck, well rear wheel drive jobs but they are worst off coz there are lots of them
