Give it time Rome was not built in a day.
I'm with you on this one Tony. Its a car that is 19YO this year and while it "may" truly have only <15,000 on the clock it may have sat for years with old oil and deposits setting hard on the lifter NRV's.
Varnish takes a while to remove even with a solvent and wire wool ;)

So, a little run out in the tappety-special today. :)
Didn't sound quite as loud or for quite as long. Needs more miles, and I need calibrated ears.

20w50 is where it is at!!

After talking with Turners engineering and RPI both RV8 experts and some other RV8 digging.

As said in the Video the RV8's internal characteristics have remained unchanged since the 60's apart from bore and stock OBVS ;)

so 20w50 is where it's at.

Oil pump?

I need to make a recording of it I think.
One of you is bound to say..."That's the.....'semi-rotary flange sprocket on the back-pedaling thrust-wangle' you plonker".

The later RV8 1993 onwards used a different front timing cover and the oil pump is 'direct drive' from the crank. changing from a drive from the distributor shaft of the older engines.

Looks "similar to me....

The "noise" is disappearing sooner than before which seems a good thing and was what I was hoping for.
However, a horrible thought has occurred to me. The "noise" when cold is more noticeable under early acceleration.
Would valve-gear make more noise then? I hope my noise is not a bottom-end knock. Ooo-err!

If it was a bottom end knock it would be there all the time.

Logically, if its only 15,000mls then you shouldn't be suffering from any bearing or valve gear failure, although not unknown.. or you've a hand full of sand in there?? Unless both your clocks and becm are none original.. if it's possible??

Just acquired a bock that I've since ripped apart On the tappets, it had a noisy tappet sound and it was a worn rocker. The hardened end that bears on the valve had worn away so there was too much clearance for the hydraulic follower to take up the slack.

Quite odd but it had 224k on it.

Are yer sure ya motor has 14k on it?

Maybe 18yrs of short runs and long standing hasn't done it any good

Thanks @wammers @Mark Piercy @Henry_b .
This is the conundrum. The car is unmarked in most regards. Paint and finish (inside & out) is very good if not flawless.
Seats unmarked/uncreased. Engine serial# matches the original build docs from LR.
Online MOT history (all that shows anyway) agrees with the mileage <13,000 when I got her and now <15,000.
No declared "write-off" or stolen history on any paid for vehicle checks I used before purchase.
Has someone really gone to the trouble of dressing her up to such an extent? It seems rather elaborate.
Oh well, it is what it is. Let's wait and see what develops. I do need to take a recording of the noise and get some of your ears on it I think.
