when i first started at the reconditioners, there was one unit only bosses son and a small number could finish off which was lt230 intermediate gear pre load setting ,what he used was a tool they made to crush each spacer down to a predetermined size kept secretly somewhere as this was their edge over others ,which seemed odd to me when i discovered what it was ,as obviously the whole point of been adjustable was because they needed to vary to suit each box, anyhow the reason was the bosses son had built about 30 for lr but misread lb inch as ft lb as rolling resistance was 10 -15 inch lbs hed set them 10-15 lbft, making a total of 40 ish lbft for whole box apparently it was hindering performance ,so one misread by a fool meant that for a time all boxes where incorrectly set with maybe a few lucky ones

HELLO!

regards cam button

mine was from v8 tuna :p im pretty sure but it came in a genuine land rover parts bag

no, i cant remember the number!

it came with a spacer to replace the dizzy gear so i get the impression it was designed as a kit or i dont know but basically designed for the GEMS/THOR engines that did not have a dizzy as the dizzy was supposed to hold the cam back no doubt

hence extreme dizzy gear wear on some engines

anyway i fitted button with dizzy gear and without big fat spacer

had to machine the nylon/teflon portion back quite a lot as V belt timing case must have been different dimensions to GEMS/THOR case

regards threads, it is a 10A motor from an sd1 but had a brand new cam fitted from one of the three places supplying RV8 parts these days, was just a stock 3.5/3.9 cam £50 off the shelf jobby

hope that helps?

:)

Ok boys, for a start its an imperial thread so no cam button for me :(

got the head studs in tonight along with the old comp gaskets and the heads torqued to 60ftlbs for a dummy build as I am a little worried about the valve piston interface as its now much a bitsa engine I put some bluetack on the piston face to see if I can gain any clues although as far as I can tell from studying my spare 9.75:1 sd1 motor there is about 1mm (gotta check maths 2moz)less clearance on my motor at the edges of the piston- will this matter?

also when I went to fit the cam it was quite tight in to the last bearing, it seemed odd but when it was fully home it improved. I now have a spring balance so I took a measure and its 5lbs at 10 inches off center to get it to turn, that sound ok?

Pics 2moz and hopefully final build!

nope, and no means to get them in and out either, I had them done at the machine shop while it was there, real buggerance as the whole things has white break in lube on it too, looks like a bad mayo experience :p

stop it stop it :p

lol I did have the same thoughts, pics uploading now!

it looks like that rear bearing hangs forward of the block slightly and even the oil hole line up is not perfect, I wonder if thats the issue? not sure how it would be?

HELP, I AM SO CLOSE!!!!!
