is your rear exhaust hanger not aligned, maybe undo the rest of the mounts and get this mounted, rubber bush between the 2
 
I've got the other two to fit at some point just for the sake of renewing the lot. The rear most one is a central mount (just looks a little mangled), the middle one seems fine. Its not got a mount to the block at all. Maybe it'll line up if I slacken the mid silencer and the other mounts. Mid silencer was fitted not so long ago.
 
All sorted. Removed all the mounts, loosened both ends of the mid section. Got the new mounts in but loose, tightened up mid section then mounts. All seems a lot more solid.

Went to fire up the engine and nothing. It has been sat a few weeks and I'd been messing with the gearboxes so checked it over. Eventually realised the battery was at 9V so put it on the maintinence charger for tonight. Tomorrow I should be able to test it out.

Small list of jobs left including checking t-box for leaks, curing engine oil leak, timing engine properly and a service. It'll get a run to Kent next week so I want to make sure it's on form.
 
Oops. Must have not put the fan on properly last time.

Very lucky. Was stuck in traffic and wondered why I was running hot, but not in red. Shortly after I drove back from Kent to Cambridge with no issues. 1 fan blade is a little chewed as it was sat against the alternator pulley, missed the belt.

Only problem I have is the spigot the fan used to screw on to.

It is no more. Thread on viscous unit is ok but I presume I need a new pump.
 
Bugger, at least the fan didn't bugger up the radiator when it came off. And you know it can handle traffic without overheating.
 
Stubborn old engines, I love em. Considered going electric fan but I think I'm better off with the viscous for reliability. £30 for a new water pump which isn't bad. Need to order parts for swivel regasket anyway.
 
Get some releasing fluid on the water pump bolts asap, give yersel the best chance of removing it without shearing any.
 
Cheers, its not long been rebuilt and I copper greased them so they should come out nice and easy. I think it spent most its life in desert climates as all the fixings are pretty good, compared to the spare civvy spec engine I have where most the bolts sieze and shear...
 
So the new water pump went on no bother, thread on the viscous to pump was a little stiff but at least it won't come off. I've also managed to seal my sump now so that i have one less leak. Used RTV sealant with no gasket which has done the trick.

Unfortunately I have a new leak, from the fuel tank. It looks like it's coming from between the cradle and tank so I'll have to get that sorted pretty quick, I already have one soft spot now on my asphalt drive. Looking at a Bearmach tank (avoiding Britpart) and possibly cleaning and re-using the cradle and other parts with new seals. Any advise welcome.
I also have the swivels to fit new gaskets to as they are leaking, which will just leave the transfer box drips which won't go away but at least they are minor.

Despite all these leaks I rarely have to top anything up and the old girl is running lovely...
 
Been a while since posting on this thread but thought I’d drop some pics in of my latest efforts. Spent a week sorting Dinitrol treatment to chassis, minor welding to x-member, drivers door bottom and roll hoop foot, re-felt windows, remove side lockers to treat body ally corrosion, new coat of paint. Also since the last post I’ve refurbed swivels, original balls still perfect but new stub axles and bearings used, and I’ve replaced the fuel tank. The latter is still giving me jip as I run out of fuel before reaching the reserve despite a new pickup pipe/sender.

Thought I’d re-start feeding pics and things into this thread. Had a bang and loss of drive a week ago thanks to a failed drive flange on the rear axle, absolutely rotten:(

And further dismantling confirmed manky bearings, despite being in fairly good condition, and a worn stub axle. At this point I decided the whole lot needed replacing both sides.

A possible cause of one hub being contaminated, the flat of the spacer ring was part squashed meaning water could get in when wading

Drivers side completed with minimal fuss, except I found I’ve put the inner hub seal in the wrong way round. That can stay put for now though...
