Hello All

I am looking to put 33" tyres on the Disco and would like some advice on which way to go. I want some form of mud terrain tyre but I use my trunk for going away so I want some thing which is also not to bad on the road. Hopefully not to noisy :)

If any one has any preference or had any bad experience please let me know.

Regardless what I call it, it is still a LR and I still want to know peoples opinion on tyres, but thanks for your input. :mooning:
 
You can't go wrong with BFGs in my opinion. Not cheap but you'll get yer money's worth out of em. Don't the tyres fall of the trunk when it reaches down for a drink though:D
 
I've had kumho kl71's on for 6 months now and I can't fault them, super on the road even in the wet, not to bad off road either! :)

When you say you plan to flare the arches, are you not expecting the tyre to rub inside the wheel arches? This is a general question I've wondered for some time now, have been considering a wider wheel/tyre setup which would result in them stickin out wider than the body. I can resolve the issue with mot by adding flexi arches, am just not sure whether the wheel arches are required under compression
 
I am planing on cutting the outer rim on the arch to stop them rubbing on the outer edge. Then I am going to fit flexi arches to sort the MOT issue out. I have a set of 30mm wheel spacers which I have on my standard wheels. I will use these these if I get an issue with the tyres rubbing on the inner of the arch. Hopefully all this will work lol

But what about the outer side of your arches (inside body shell) under compression?
 
I'd be a tad wary of fitting 33's with wheel apacers. 33 is a tad larger than normal and the extra mass, further spaced out, might make driveline breakages inevitable rather than unlucky! Think I'd fettle things so the 33's fitted without the wheel spacer.

You should get away without fitting spacers. Just done this conversion on my shootin wagon. 2" lift, with 265 BFG All terrains on Modular wheels.The tyres have been tested in some proper mud and performed really well.On road again very well but with a noticible, but not obtrusive rumble. You will need to trim the arches for clearance under articulation, but not too much. The arches we fitted needed the bodywork cutting anyway to make them fit properly and to make a nice job. If I remember I will post a couple of pictures if your interested ?

Yes, thanks I would be interested in seeing some pics. It will be good to see what some one else has done before I attemp it :)

If the tyres rub on full comprestion I was thinking about getting larger bump stops. I have seen then at Paddock's. Does any one know if this will work?

Forgot to mention +2 bump stops where included in the kit. So far no contact twix tyre and body even under some extreme articulation.
 
Here we go, some pictures of the finished job. Got the whole kit - springs, dampers, bump stops, dislocation cones, winch bumper, winch and wheels and tyres from M&Mx4 £1700 delivered.
This is the rear - had to cut into the door a little, but not to much.


And the front...

Looking back, we should have gone back a bit with the arch to even it up a bit.



The only thing left to do is to put some spacers on the anti roll bar to drop it down a bit.
 
Looks good :) What arches did you get? Are they 50mm Flexi arches?

When you cut the arches on the rear. Did you get a between the out and inner skin of the door? If so how did you fill this and make it water tight?

Planning on doing the lift on mine this weekend. Hopefully it wont take more then two days.
