I fitted a new turbo (from Turbo Rebuild Limited) in mid 2021 and took it out in early 2022 after approx 600 miles. I replaced it after a rebuild and fitting an larger intercooler with a VNT from Allisport.
Here is a link to Turbo Rebuild : https://www.turborebuild.co.uk/

The uprated turbo has sat around for a year or so and needs a new home.
Please see the pic's below.
What you see is what you get.

The £340 I paid didn't include the manifold or the shipping (which I organised)...
£275 inc delivery to mainland UK address

hello ,if I read this properly, this is a refurbished turbo with upgrades ? what are the upgrades ? was the turbo in good working condition before it came off ?

The CHRA (Centre Housing Rotational Assembly) seal and bearing was shot so the 'puff' was weak and it leaked oil into the intercooler.
That's why I changed it in the first place as my orininal CHRA was fooked.
The housing, the dump valve rods and the manifolds are fine.
The CHRA was replaced with a new 'hybrid' vane. This is 'better' than the standard in that it has extended (larger) inducer and exducer fans which (according to thier bumf) increases the spool up time by 500rpm.
The turbo was then cleaned and tested and reffiitted with new seals etc.
The dump valve actuator and the hoses are all new too.
It was all sorted and rebuilt by Turbo rebuilds, sent away a rattly, wheezing old thing and it came back all done, just needs to be fitted.

I needed to rebuild all sorts of other bits on my engine and fitted a VVT so this is spare.

Im just about to rebuild a series 3 with a 300tdi that hast run for a few years but has genuine low miles , took it out the donor discovery myself and was a local ish heap.. but giving it a look over before cleaning it up I wondered if the turbo might need some attention ..

seeing this add and seing it was in Scotland as well got me interested .. being as im an east coaster near Forfar it would be remis of me not to keep my wallet firmly closed before asking if you might consider an offer of £250 all in .. and keep it in Scotland :)

Im sweating already at the thought of spending more doe on a whim .. but got to admit a fresh turbo might be a bonus ..

cheers for now. ,

The 300 tdi I have come out of a Discovery 1 Im not all that familiar with the different set ups but seem to recall the defender and the disco manifolds are different to put the turbo in the right place for the application.

Ive bought a conversion set up for the 300 tdi discovery in a series 3 haven't bought the exhaust yet though so will give the engine a look and see how it compares to the ones you have there .. and if its compatible with the brackets and stuff in the conversion kit .. Will get back to you later tonight ..

I had a feel about earlier and noticed that the turbo on the motor I have has a bit of lift on the rotor . Not sure if thats normal but im guessing its not ..

Thats the sign, the rotor wobbles about on it's shaft.

The 300tdi 'lump' is the same, so with my turbo and manifold installed it will put the inlet and the outlet + exhaust in the Defender 300tdi position 👍

I remembered to have a look at the motor today , the turbo and manifold are identical. I read somewhere that the 300 tdi engines in the Defender and the disco are the same , unlike the 200 tdi variants , so if that info is correct and my eyes aren't playing tricks on me , I'm very interested in the turbo and manifold, if you can you bear to part with it for £250 :) ...

I will take £250 if you come and get it ....
Am near Lanark
Send me a PM and i will send my address.

Turbo and exhaust manifold sold - thanks everyone.

The inlet manifold made a lot of sense (to me) - it's from Fourby's ....

Just tripped over the attached thread , :( Spent the day modifying it to fit the series as per The Steve Parkers conversion .. If its crap then at least I've had the opportunity to take one apart and do some mods. The Parkers mod for the relocation of the dump valve was a bit **** so I cut the old bracket off the turbo body and welded it back on .. A fair bit of work all in and now I find its a poor performer ! Will put it down to experience if its crap .. but fingers crossed it was something else and not the turbo . will answer that question on the build thread once I get that far ..

Yup, it was a plethora of things.
The timing belt tensioner wasn't doing it's job so despite resetting the timing (at the FiP) it wasn't correct and the FiP was knacked.
The vaccum pump wasn't the best either and I had an under pressure low pressure lift pump.
Several people told me it was the Turbo and in the end I was 1/2 beiving them so I bought anothjer better one, a VGT from Alisport, which made things slightly better, but not £900 better aned not better across the rev range as it should have.
There was little to no difference abouve 2500 rpm and only a slight improvement getting there.

I rebuilt the top end of the engine and replaced the timing belt, tensioner and a couple of bearing and them bought a pump from a guy on here and sent it to Diesel Bob for a full refurb.

Now it's all together i'm off like a chastised cat.
I should be off like a scalded cat but the combination of large tryres and a Disco LT230 means the car runs well when i'm up in the revs but doesn't light fires on the way.

The Turbo rebuilds, hybrid, is good, better than the standard but not as good as a VGT.
It's set with a 17psi uplift which kick in slightly sooner than the standard setup.
And it come with a garentee 👍

Your not far away, pop over when it's put together.

Thats a relief :) I wasnt to worried , but did get a wee bit concerned when the turbo was initially blamed, as you might imagine .
It was interesting to pull it apart, never realised there was so little to them . There was some residue hard baked on the inner part of the turbo body , It felt like it was in the metal but turned out to be some kind of oil/ varnish residue . Any hoo, its all back together again, all welded up and looking stock not half assed like the replacement bracket .

I didnt see anything suspect inside the guts of the turbo and since there isnt much to it I was guessing it was probably another issue causing the poor performance . Will be a few weeks before I spin it up but will keep you posted and may well give you a shout ....

cheers for now .
