I have seen kits on fleebay to update the intercooler. They claim a increase in power and mpg is there any truth to this?????? If there is I got a MASSIVE intercooler from a Renault 5 turbo I had a very long time ago that I might try fitting lol

You`ll also get MASSIVE turbo lag! It`l take forever to pressurise the inter-cooler and for higher pressure air to meander thro` to engine. There is some benefit to larger inercoolers, but there is a price to pay.

Try cleaning out existing intercooler (tis on my "to do"list). Throw away EGR if still on vehicle. De-cat also?

Flush it out with petrol and refit with better hose clips.

Mine is a 98 will it have a cat? Will it smoke if this is removed and will it make mot time a bitch? Also egr removal kits how do they work and what benefits is there? Cheers

I duno about test in UK but am sure someone else will know. At worst de-cat and re-fit cat when due test.
EGR on `98 is most likely carboned/choked and causing loss in power, increase in fuel consumption, therefore more pollution than it`s saving! Simple kit with new intercooler hose from, Island4x4, or use penny to blank hole`n` bodge/blank redundant part of old hose.
If using petrol or similar be sure that it`s well cleaned out and no fumes remain to cause "runaway" when re-fitting. Especaily with an auto as no chance of stalling it.

mot will only test emissions have put the defender down pipe in many and not had a problem passing

hi i have an alli sport intercooler on my 300tdi ( the biggest one they do for it ) and its made a world of difference. it pulls better, is smoother, a dont have t change down much at all when goin up hills. It was worth every penny.
I also have done the de-cat, removed the egr valve, tuned the fueling up, fitted silicone hoses, and have put on a new rad n a electric fan.

as said before, egr blank, decat, fuel pump tweak, intercooler flush out, silicone hoses and a little bit of turbo bodgery will give you noticable increases.

Just fitting a bigger intercooler and not adjusting the pump will make no difference to performance .
Not changing the intercooler and adjusting the pump will make a big difference,but then it will use more fuel and smoke.
A diesel does not need a cat for the MOT as they only test particulate.
Just removing the vacuum pipe from the EGR valve will stop it working but wont make any difference to performance unless its stuck open then blanking it off will be cheaper than replacement.

Is that necessary? I don't know about the mainland but in NI MOT doesn't test for emissions on diesels? Have had plenty of cars pass with no cat before, even most well maintained petrols will pass the emissions with a decat.
