Evening all,
I’ve just started back on my project, a 300tdi Disco, after being busy at work for the last few months.
We struggled to get her to fire properly, I took the lift pump off and noticed I could only feel it blow and not suck. So I took it to my local 4x4 garage where the mechanic stripped it and said it was fine. After getting it back I could feel pressure on both the inlet and outlet, so refitted it and after bleeding the injectors, got her to fire.
She was idling very rough but after being left a few minutes, sounded fine. When revved however, she would white smoke a hell of a lot then drop revs and try to stall. So we bled the inlet to the fuel filter, then the outlet, then the inlet to the injector pump, then the injectors. She was running slightly better but we couldn’t get all of the bubbles out of the injectors.
I opened the bleed screw on the filter but got nothing, so took the filter off and filled it and fired her up again. This time she ran perfectly and revved fine, albeit with a lot of white smoke. However after a few minutes, started to run rough again. I opened the bleed screw again and nothing.
When bleeding the injectors, I notice that the first and third give big jets of fuel and second and fourth it dribbles out, with bubbles.
My line of thinking is that the stalling is fuel starvation caused by an air leak, but I cannot find where the air leak could be. If not an air leak, what else could it be?
To note, the vehicle has been sat for a few months, not started and with fuel left in the tank and lines after being started last time. Previous to that, the vehicle had been stripped and placed on a new chassis.
Apologies for the long winded post, any and all help is much appreciated.
Thanks all
